Job Purpose
The Composite Technician is an integral part of meeting client expectations, working from start to finish in the manufacturing of client products and projects. The role owns composite layup and the layup techniques used for bonding, trimming, and curing composite materials, and, with supervision, takes responsibility for the finishing and final product delivered to customers. Quality is built in at every step, by every technician.
Duties and Responsibilities

Composite Fabrication
- Form, lay up, fabricate, assemble, and repair parts or assemblies made from composite materials
- Apply materials onto moulds (mandrels, tools, or other forms), using hands and tools to conform materials to the shape of the mould
- Apply wraps, bags, or other products to prepare parts for the curing process
- Sand, fill, fair, and finish parts as instructed to prepare them for paint or completion
Quality and Documentation
- Manufacture high-quality composite products in accordance with process instructions
- Read work instructions, travelers, drawings, and other documents to determine the materials and processes required for each product
- Perform in-process checks on your own work for compliance and quality, and record all checks on travelers
Teamwork and Safety
- Work closely with the team to produce quality products and meet targeted timelines
- Ensure quality and safety standards are met in the day-to-day work environment and help hold the team to those standards
- Assist with other shop projects, duties, and responsibilities as needed
Required Skills, Abilities and Experience
- Composite manufacturing experience
- English language skills (read and write)
- Superior attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
- Solid communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Strong documentation and organization skills
- Awareness of and commitment to product safety, counterfeit parts prevention, ethical conduct, and personal contribution to product quality and safety in accordance with AS9100 Rev D
- Continuing education supported by PCI upon approval
Working Conditions
PCI promotes a safe and clean working environment that meets or exceeds standards prescribed by the Ontario Ministry of Labour. Work is conducted indoors in our manufacturing shop. Personal protective equipment is required on the shop floor, including safety shoes (CSA Green Triangle) and safety glasses. Respiratory protection, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, and work suits are mandatory as required.
Other conditions include:
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts on occasion, based on manufacturing schedules
- Ability to be on your feet for up to 9 hours each day
Physical Requirements
Composite Technicians must have the following abilities:
- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
- Work with power tools and heavy shop equipment
- Use hands throughout the composite manufacturing process
