YOUR IMPACT

Are you a hands-on, self-motivated individual who enjoys troubleshooting issues and maintaining facilities to the highest standards? We are seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Maintenance team. Based primarily at our Accelerator Building Waterloo location, this role will serve as the frontline maintenance resource for the site while supporting the broader maintenance team at OpenText Waterloo headquarters.

This position focuses on preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, strong knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and ensuring a safe, reliable, and well-maintained workplace environment.

WHAT THE ROLE OFFERS

- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs across building systems, ensuring facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
- Conduct routine building and site inspections, identify maintenance deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions to address operational and safety concerns.
- Complete a wide range of general maintenance tasks, including carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, doors, locks, ceiling systems, and minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
- Support HVAC, mechanical, and Building Automation Systems (BAS) through monitoring, troubleshooting, inspections, filter changes, and preventative maintenance activities.
- Respond promptly to service requests and work orders, delivering high-quality customer service and timely issue resolution.
- Maintain exterior property areas including grounds, parking lots, walkways, landscaping, loading docks, signage, and seasonal snow and ice management activities.
- Support Fire & Life Safety programs, office moves, furniture installations, space reconfigurations, and other workplace improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors and vendors, ensuring maintenance, repair, and construction activities are completed safely and in accordance with company standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, inventory levels, and documentation while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, training requirements, and operational procedures.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for assigned facilities by proactively identifying risks, recommending long-term solutions, supporting sustainability initiatives, and responding to emergency or after-hours facility incidents as required.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

- 3-5 years of experience in building maintenance, facility operations, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, and general building systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs independently.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with employees, visitors, contractors, and vendors.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to travel between OpenText facilities and transport maintenance materials as required
- Valid G driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and work order systems
- Certification in Building Environmental Systems (BES), Building Operator Certification (BOC), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), or a related trade certification is considered an asset.
- WHMIS, Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, and other relevant health and safety certifications are also considered assets.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Ability to perform physically demanding maintenance activities.

Compensation: At OpenText, we offer a thoughtfully designed benefits package that supports your physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. As you move through the hiring process, we’re happy to provide more details about our compensation programs, including variable and commission compensation opportunities for eligible roles, vacation entitlement, and paid time off.

Salary Range: $49,920 - $74,880; Depending on the candidate’s education, experience, skills, geographical location, and alignment with internal equity and external market, actual salary may vary and be higher or lower than the range posted.
