Bering-Alaka'ina Holdings, LLC is looking for a qualified Audiology Technician to provide general support to our government customer, at Elgin AFB, Florida .
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical support for research and public health activities including data collection, operation of audiometric and related equipment, and coordination of participant activities in accordance with established protocals.
- Provide scientific and technical support for research investigating the acute and chronic auditory and cognitive effects of blast exposure, with a primary objective dose-response curves to inform exposure standards and protective strategies.
- Provide scientific and technical support for research examining the impacts of hearing impairment, hearing protection, and noise on operational task performance in a variety of military-relevant domains. This research shall leverage advanced tools, including validated hearing loss simulation systems, to safely replicate the effects of degraded or enhanced auditory acuity on tasks such as speech communication, threat detection, target identification, and situational awareness, and to inform the development of functional hearing assessments and auditory fitness for duty (AFFD) criteria.
- Provide technical support for the scientific evaluation and validation of next-generation audiometric technologies, including boothless systems and consumer wearable devices, for their potential use in DoD hearing programs.
- General Research Protocol Support: Provide a full range of support for the execution of IRB-approved research protocols, including participant recruitment, data collection, and management, analysis, and dissemination.
- Hearing Conservation Program Management & Improvement: Provide programmatic and technical support for the enterprise-wide implementation and continuous improvement of hearing conservation programs in accordance with DoDI 6055.12. This includes managing
- Work with hearing conservation staff to assist in the recruitment and testing of individuals into hearing tests, either as part of their annual hearing exams or as part of clinical appointments in the occupational health or audiology department;
- Work with the research staff in the development, execution, analysis, and documentation of auditory and vestibular studies focused on the evaluation and development of improved hearing protection systems and the impact of hearing loss on military effectiveness;
- Work with the Research Engineer in the development, integration, and installation of custom and modified COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) hardware, software, and related equipment as required for the implementation of clinical and field studies related to hearing research, assist as necessary in the hearing conservation program, including in the testing and fitting of hearing protection devices and in the counseling and training of individuals in the use of hearing protection and on the consequences of unprotected noise exposure;
- Schedule research subject initial and return appointments; maintain open communication with the assigned Research Engineer and research staff and report progress on the research study;
- Provide assistance to Research Engineer and research staff in preparing research subjects as needed;
- Ensure all data and databases abides by all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and associated patient confidentiality requirements.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must have an Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in audiology, communication disorders, speech/language pathology or another relevant field.
- Must have a certification in audiology or hearing conservation.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have experience conducting audiology research in a hearing convservation or clinical environment.
- Must have knowledge in desktop/portable diagnostic tympanometry equipment, electrophysiological testing equipment, PC-based speech audiometers equipment, optoacoustic emission/auditory brainstem response equipment, vestibule-ocular reflex assessment tools, diagnostic audiometers, and teleaudiology equipment.
- Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor;
- Ability to develop strong trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results;
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, techniques, and medical procedures;
- Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner
- Must be able to demonstrate competences in oral and written communications
- Must have knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and associated patient confidentiality requirements.
- Must have knowledge of the Protection of Human Subjects in Research and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulatory requirements.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Two plus (2+) years in a hearing-related research environment.
- Three to five (3-5) years of experience in the biomedical field.
- Three to five (3-5) years of non-profit, research, or healthcare experience.
- Knowledge of military medical systems.
REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) federal background check.
COMPENSATION DETAILS:
- $53,511.53 - $60,491.29
- The compensation range or hourly rate provided is a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, market conditions, and applicable laws.
