Receiving, Inventory & Shipping Manager

Location: Duncan, SC

Reports To: Plant Manager

Job Type: Full-time, exempt

Job Summary: We are seeking an organized, hands-on Receiving, Inventory & Shipping Manager. This role owns the flow of material from the dock door in to the dock door out, leading the receiving, inventory and shipping team and serving as the point person for vendors, carriers and internal departments on material movement.

This person makes sure every inbound delivery is checked and put away correctly, inventory records match what is on the shelf, and customer orders ship complete, on time and damage-free. The manager works closely with Production, Purchasing, Project Managers and is measured against the key performance indicators listed below.

Key Responsibilities:

Receiving

- Schedule and manage inbound deliveries; coordinate appointments with vendors and carriers.

- Verify every receipt against the purchase order and packing list for correct cost, quantity, material description, and condition.

- Inspect for damage or nonconformance; document, quarantine and report discrepancies to Quality and Purchasing within 24 hours.

- Post receipts in the ERP/inventory system the same day and route material to put-away, QC or production.

- File freight claims for shortages and damage and track them to closure.

Inventory Control

- Maintain accurate on-hand quantities and bin locations for raw materials, fittings, NB&G, equipment, miscellaneous items and report accurate WIP.

- Run the cycle count program (ABC-based) and lead the annual physical inventory.

- Investigate and resolve count variances; approve adjustments within set limits.

- Manage warehouse and pipe laydown yard layout, labeling and 5S so any item can be found in under two minutes.

- Report Material Shortages, slow-moving and obsolete inventory to Purchasing.

- Close out overage material from projects and put in to general inventory for future projects.

- Control customer-owned and returned (RMA) material.

Shipping

- Plan weekly shipment against the schedule and promised ship dates.

- Oversee loading, packing, crating and labeling to customer and carrier requirements.

- Ensure accuracy of bills of lading, packing slips, and certificates of conformance.

- Select carriers and modes for cost and service; schedule LTL, FTL and parcel shipments; negotiate rates with carriers .

- Audit freight invoices and resolve billing errors.

Team, Safety & Improvement

- Hire, train, schedule and evaluate Supervision ,receiving, inventory and shipping staff; cross-train for coverage.

- Enforce safe forklift, rigging, racking and pipe stacking practices; keep OSHA forklift certifications current.

- Track and report the department KPIs below weekly; lead root-cause and corrective action on misses.

- Write and maintain procedures for receiving, put-away, counting, picking and shipping.

- Work with Production, Purchasing, and Project Management on material availability and month-end inventory close.

Key Performance Indicators:

Performance is reviewed monthly against these targets and formally at the annual review. Targets are starting points and should be set against a 90-day baseline after hire.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

- 5+ years in receiving, warehouse, inventory or shipping operations, with 10+ years supervising a team.

- Working knowledge of an ERP or inventory system (receipts, transfers, adjustments, cycle counts).

- Experience booking LTL, FTL and parcel freight and preparing bills of lading.

- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with data to track KPIs.

- High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred

- Experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

- Associate or bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics or business, or APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CLTD).

- Barcode/RF scanning implementation experience.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

- Works in a warehouse and shop environment with exposure to noise, dust and seasonal temperatures.

- Regularly stands, walks, bends and climbs; lifts up to 50 lbs unassisted.

- Wears required PPE, including safety shoes, safety glasses and hi-vis as required.

- Occasional overtime or early starts to meet ship dates and project requirements.
