Shelter House was established in 1981 as a grassroots responder to the homelessness crisis in Fairfax County. About the Role:

Hypothermia Coordinators are responsible for supporting the operation of the temporary Hypothermia program between November 15 and April 1. The Hypothermia Coordinator will set up the Hypothermia program space, pick up and drop off program participants utilizing a large Shelter House–owned vehicle, conduct program participant orientations, distribute meals, schedule shower use, and ensure participants’ needs are met. Hypothermia Coordinators will provide participants with information on resources such as the Drop-In Day Program and Emergency Shelter and are responsible for recording and reporting information on the participants utilizing the hypothermia program.

Responsibilities:

- Monitor participant safety, conduct walkthroughs, and maintain accurate participant counts.

- Enforce shelter guidelines and respond to conflicts and emergencies using de-escalation techniques.

- Report critical incidents and maintain participant dignity, respect, and confidentiality.

- Complete participant intakes, orientations, and required paperwork.

- Explain shelter guidelines, schedules, and available services.

- Distribute essential supplies, address participant needs, and encourage engagement with case management services.

- Prepare and maintain clean, safe, and organized sleeping areas.

- Set up cots and bedding, complete laundry, and organize supplies and donations.

- Conduct facility checks and assist with breakfast preparation.

- Safely transport participants while following designated routes and traffic laws.

- Maintain vehicle cleanliness, inspections, and fueling.

- Complete driving logs and report maintenance concerns or incidents.

- Maintain accurate shelter logs, incident reports, and required documentation.

- Communicate participant concerns and operational updates to supervisors.

- Complete thorough shift handoffs to ensure continuity of services.

- Report to scheduled shifts as emergency personnel, including during inclement weather.

- Attend required meetings and trainings and complete administrative tasks.

- Uphold Shelter House's iC.A.R.E. values and perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

- Annual TB Test is required

- Ability to sit or stand for long periods

- Ability to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds
