About the position:

The Senior Application Engineer will be responsible for the development, enhancement, maintenance, and production support of critical enterprise applications within ING Americas. This role requires a hands-on engineer with strong Java development skills, Linux/Unix expertise, and experience supporting applications in a production environment. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, architecture teams, infrastructure teams, and fellow engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.

About the department:

The Application Engineering organization is responsible for the development, support, stability, security, and continuous improvement of ING Americas’ business-critical technology platforms. The team manages the full application lifecycle, including solution design, software development, deployment, operational support, automation, and incident resolution. Engineers within the department partner closely with business, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and risk teams to ensure applications remain resilient, compliant, and aligned with business objective

Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, test, and implement enhancements for regional business applications.
- Provide 2nd line production support for business-critical applications, including incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
- Develop and maintain relevant services, APIs, and integrations.
- Support applications and perform operational troubleshooting.
- Create, Enhance and/pr maintain relevant scripts/programs to automate operational and support activities.
- Analyze application logs, system metrics, and monitor data to proactively identify issues and improve platform stability.
- Participate in software deployments, release activities, and change management processes.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, database, cybersecurity, and business teams to deliver solutions and/or resolve production issues.
- Implement application improvements to enhance performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards, secure coding practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge sharing within the team

Qualifications and Competencies

- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience developing and supporting enterprise applications.

- PowerShell and automation scripting
- Linux (RHEL)/Unix environments, including Bash/Shell scripting
- Application support & production troubleshooting

- SWIFT messaging
- DTCC connectivity
- Post-trade processing
- File-based integrations (CSV/XML)
- Authentication technologies (LDAP, Active Directory, SAML/OIDC/Entra ID)

Financial Markets domain experience

- Securities and Trade lifecycle processing
- Regulatory reporting
- Exception management and reconciliation
- Front-office to back-office integration flows

Hourly Rate: $65-82
