Essential Job Duties
- Provide respectful, professional, positive service in all interactions between co-workers, internal external customers, community members, and the public at large.
- Maintain a positive and productive environment ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the City, Department and Division.
- Assists with daily system inspections, basic preventative maintenance, and repairs at the Water Reclamation Center
- Operates vehicles, lawn equipment and heavy-duty rolling equipment, including front end loader, skid loader, telehandler forklift, tanker truck, dump truck and large agricultural tractors used with biosolids application equipment.
- Assists with the Biosolids Management Program through the operations of biosolids dewatering and application equipment, accurate reporting and soil sampling procedures.
- Assists with daily sample collection procedures and lab operations as required.
- Performs custodial duties and grounds maintenance throughout all Wastewater Division Facilities.
- Perform the job safely and in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
Ancillary Job Duties
- Follow all departmental and organizational processes, policies, and procedures required to meet operational targets.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and be available to assist in after-hours emergencies, both requiring a response time of 30 minutes or less.
- Respond to winter storm operations on a 24-hour call basis as required (full-time only); plow snow and spread salt as needed to clear streets.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- Minimum one year of experience in inspection and operation of wastewater treatment operations and equipment, or other relevant experience required.
- Job-relevant certification/license, vocational/technical program completion, or completion of apprenticeship preferred.
- Prior equipment operating experience desired.
- MODNR Wastewater Treatment Operator Class D Certification preferred, or the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment required.
- Valid Class A CDL with airbrakes and tanker endorsement preferred, or the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Knowledge and general understanding of the functions of the Water Reclamation Center, and all Wastewater lift stations.
- Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing and in person.
- Ability to use good judgment and think rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
- Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work under direct supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and systems to accomplish tasks.
- Basic knowledge in the use of general computer programs and applications including email and mobile apps
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to safely drive vehicles used to transport materials, tools, and equipment
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty. Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable.
