More Than Words (MTW) is a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. By working as a team to manage their own retail and online used book business and community space, youth develop the employment skills, leadership, and self-confidence they need to successfully transition to adulthood.

The Opportunity
More Than Words (MTW) seeks a creative, organized, and highly engaged Marketing Coordinator to help bring our mission, young people, stores, and community partnerships to life across social media. This hands-on alumni position will focus on day-to-day social engagement, capturing authentic content across MTW spaces, promoting the growing chain of Boomerangs thrift stores, identifying and building relationships with local influencers, and coordinating influencer visits at our sites. The role reports to the Director of Marketing and New Business and works closely with site staff to gather timely, compelling content.
Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to :
Social Media Engagement :
- Monitor MTW and Boomerangs social platforms multiple times/week and respond to comments, questions, tags, and direct messages in a timely, professional, and mission-aligned voice
- Build active engagement by liking, commenting on, sharing, and reposting relevant content from community partners, supporters, customers, influencers, and aligned organizations
- Identify timely opportunities for MTW and Boomerangs to participate in local conversations, trends, and community moments
- Flag sensitive, complex, or customer-service-related messages for review and support appropriate follow-up
- Content Capture Across MTW Sites:
- Regularly visit and coordinate with MTW and Boomerangs locations in Boston, Cambridge, and Waltham to capture raw photo and video content
- Gather authentic, on-the-ground content featuring store merchandise, sales, displays, events, donations, behind-the-scenes activity, community partnerships, and organizational updates
- Capture vertical video and informal content that can be used for Instagram and Facebook Stories, Reels, short-form videos, and other social posts
- Organize, label, and upload raw content so it is easy for the marketing team to locate, review, and use
- Follow MTW guidelines related to youth privacy, consent, dignity, and mission-centered storytelling
Influencer Research, Outreach, and Coordination :
- Research and identify local influencers and content creators whose audiences and content align with MTW, Boomerangs, thrift, fashion, books, sustainability, community engagement, and youth impact
- Add prospective and active influencer contacts to the marketing outreach tracker, keeping contact information, outreach status, responses, next steps, visit dates, and follow-up notes current
- Engage thoughtfully with influencer content to build authentic relationships before and after direct outreach
- Support outreach using approved messaging and coordinate next steps when an influencer expresses interest
- Help schedule and prepare influencer visits at MTW sites, including confirming the location, date, time, primary contact, visit goals, and any relevant site details
- Communicate visit information to site staff and support a welcoming, organized experience for visiting creators
- Track resulting posts, tags, reach indicators, and follow-up opportunities when information is available
Brand and Team Support :
- Use MTW and Boomerangs brand voice and visual standards consistently across social engagement and content support
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and New Business to prioritize weekly content needs, influencer outreach, and site coverage
- Support occasional marketing projects, store promotions, events, and community-facing opportunities as assigned
- Represent MTW professionally and respectfully when communicating online and coordinating with staff, partners, customers, and creators
Key Qualifications :
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 21 years of age
- Transitioned from MTW at least 2 years prior to applying
- Consistently moving toward educational and/or career goals
- Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments and communicate proactively
- Comfort using Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other social platforms
- Ability to travel among MTW sites and work independently while staying connected to the marketing team
- Strong written communication and sound judgment when engaging publicly on behalf of an organization
- Comfort taking photos and short videos on a smartphone, including vertical content for Stories and Reels
- Highly organized and able to maintain an accurate outreach tracker, follow up consistently, and manage multiple priorities
- Comfort reaching out to new people and building professional relationships online and in person
- Familiarity with Canva, Hootsuite, basic photo/video editing, or shared content libraries is a plus
- Motivated by the MTW mission and committed to respectful, strengths-based, and racially equitable storytelling
- Responsible, flexible, trustworthy, open to feedback, and interested in continued professional growth
Schedule : Typically Monday-Friday with flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events and influencer visits. This is a 6-month position, with the potential to renew after evaluating at the end of the 6-month period.
Compensation : $24.00 per hour, with a maximum of 29 hours per week.
