JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for successful maintenance of patient medical records and organizational and administrative operations of the Medical Record/Health Information Management Department. Is responsible for ensuring medical record regulatory requirements are followed and serves as a resource for the facility in regards to medical record content. Responsible for ensuring the prompt completion, filing and retrieval of medical records.

QUALIFICATIONS
Degree as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from an accredited school.
Computer experience required in windows, spreadsheet and word processing.
Two or more years of previous hospital experience in health information management/medical record functions. Knowledge of DNV standards and state regulations for health information/medical record requirements. Ability to work with hospital management and physicians in an effort to ensure compliance to HIM policy and procedures.
Two years management, supervisory and leadership experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Establishes and enforces medical record policies and procedures necessary for effective and efficient processes.
2. Provides leadership to department and to the hospital.
3. Effectively oversees day to day operations of department.
4. Develops appropriate relationships.
5. Gives presentations to management and physicians.
6. Successfully manages physician, employee, interdepartmental and patient satisfaction and/or engagement.
7. Maintains clean and organized environment.
8. Interacts positively with members of medical staff by promoting interaction.
9. Assumes responsibility for a comprehensive departmental orientation program and training to ensure that standards are consistently being met.
10. Maintains appropriate staffing to ensure prompt completion, filling and retrieval of medical record and delegates work effectively.
11. Assumes the responsibility for ensuring and fulfilling the standards and criteria of licensing and accrediting agencies.
12. Holds periodic staff meetings to assure coordination of efforts.
13. Conducts periodic performance reviews on all staff.
14. Represents the hospital in court cases involving subpoena of medical or clinical records.
15. Executes suspension policy for delinquent medical records.
16. Maintains and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
17. Attends committee; MEC/CQI and management meetings, as appropriate.
18. Ensures compliance with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
19. Applies yearly coding changes.
20. Maintains necessary controls and appropriate reviews of medical coding to ensure accuracy and compliance.
21. Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.
