ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVE
As a Network Systems Engineer for General Dynamics M&SS Surface Systems, you will help deliver robust, flexible, secure, and stable network solutions for military surface ships. Working within an agile team, you will translate mission and customer requirements into network designs, validate performance in a lab environment, and produce the engineering documentation needed to support integration and deployment.
Success in this role means delivering network solutions that meet approved requirements, resolving technical issues, and supporting team commitments to the U.S. military mission.
Key Performance Objectives
- Deliver mission-ready network designs. Develop and configure network solutions that satisfy approved functional, performance, security, and interface requirements. Demonstrate compliance through design reviews and documented verification results.
- Produce accurate, implementation-ready documentation. Create and maintain network topologies, IP plans, installation plans, and configuration documentation that enable consistent installation, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Validate network performance and resolve issues. Develop and execute lab tests against defined acceptance criteria, isolate root causes of network problems, and verify corrective actions before recommending solutions for integration.
- Maintain requirements traceability. Connect network requirements to design decisions and verification evidence, using applicable requirements management and system modeling tools to support technical reviews and change control.
- Support secure cross-domain integration, as applicable. Contribute to the design, configuration, and verification of cross-domain solutions against approved security and mission requirements.
- Meet team delivery commitments. Participate in daily collaboration, communicate progress and risks, and coordinate technical dependencies to deliver agreed-upon engineering work on schedule.
- Drive continuous improvement. Identify and implement improvements that reduce recurring issues, streamline engineering activities, or improve solution quality, including appropriate use of approved AI tools.
