POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of R&D of Trane Technologies, this role will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of thermal and cooling system development processes, from concept and testing to execution and maintenance of data centers. The successful individual will perform thermal analysis, test processes, monitor system performances and identify areas that can be improved for greater efficiency. The individual will learn about a variety of new technologies which can shape the data center industry for decades to come.

We are looking for a driven Senior Thermal Engineer that is passionate about this profession and wants to be a team leader on one of the world’s global leaders in liquid cooling solutions and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

●        Conduct conceptual designs of thermal solutions for data centers , specifically with water cooling.

●        Collaborates with other engineers, vendors, partners to plan, design, and build test fixtures and prototypes.

●        Designs and creates documentation such as PI&D.

●        Designs testing procedures and controls equipment to accurately assess products and identify areas for modification.

●        Conduct 1D Flow-Network-Modeling and 3D CFD simulations on heat transfer, energy balance, pressure drop and fluid dynamics for CDUs and cooling loops in data centers. Perform model verification tasks to ensure prediction accuracy.

●        Responsible for subsystem-level and system-level thermal performance evaluations and optimizations.

Works with the engineering team and external consultants on manufacturing designs for data centers.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

●        Master or PHD degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and/or related discipline.

●        5 plus years of experience with designing and calculating HVAC systems in industrial buildings and/or data centers.

●        HVAC / Air Conditioning / Refrigeration certificate is considered an asset.

●        Lead all the thermal performance, evaluation and testing.

●        Understands thermal cycles including adiabatic process, isothermal process, evaporative cooling cycle and dehumidification cycle.

●        Ability to perform air flow, thermal flow, and temperature calculations.

●        Proficient with AUTOCAD 2D / 3D, SolidWorks and/or similar software.

●        Experience with pressure drop simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and thermal analysis software is required.

●        Strong knowledge in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

●        Attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger picture.

●        Must have strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

●        Able to prioritize competing tasks and keeping to critical deadlines.

●        Self-starter that can be hands-on and able to work independently.

●        Multicultural approach, comfortable working with diverse cultures and mind-sets.

●        Appreciation to work in a global organization with teammates in different time zones/regions.

●        Excellent English communication (verbal & written).

Conversational in Cantonese and/or Mandarin an asset.

About LiquidStack & the Team

LiquidStack is the established leader in liquid cooling for data center, HPC, and AI workloads, with manufacturing, R&D, and headquarters in Carrollton, Texas and a longstanding engineering presence in Hong Kong. As part of Trane Technologies, we are scaling our US-based engineering capability to augment our Hong Kong team. The new Texas engineering team will focus on the design, development, and delivery of large Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) and skidded direct-to-chip platforms — including our GigaModular™ CDU family — for hyperscale, colocation, and AI infrastructure customers. The team will own manufacturability, ETL / CSA / CE / NRTL compliance, and customer-facing engineering for these product families, working in close collaboration with the Hong Kong team on shared architecture and component engineering. The Mechanical Design team owns the physical architecture of CDU skids and enclosures — including the GigaModular™ platform — covering frame design, piping layout, component packaging, and design for manufacturability.
