DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
GBH’s Business Development and Strategy department works to explain the evolving media landscape, as well as internal and external issues we face, to the GBH community (leadership, staff, Board), so we can collaboratively develop solutions to create a thriving and more sustainable future for GBH. As part of the Business Development and Strategy department, the Digital Content team provides GBH’s diverse content production, journalism and business units with strategic guidance, audience development support, digital content production and support for disciplined experimentation for all the above. The team is a dynamic, versatile group of digital producers with skills in digital video, social media, email, and website content development.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Producer, Development & Digital Production is a hybrid role driving the creation of new digital initiatives from early-stage concept development through production and delivery. Sitting at the intersection of creative storytelling, operations and business strategy, this role acts as the critical bridge between creative production teams and business development, corporate sponsorship and legal departments.
This role works closely with GBH production units, both national and local, to identify new opportunities and pitch original concepts. This role is responsible for using data to understand how audiences are finding, consuming, and responding to this new content. The Senior Producer role must have the ability to meet and adapt to changing industry demands and shifting audience behaviors, be flexible and balance multiple projects/priorities.
The ideal candidate brings a background in agency environments, branded/sponsored content initiatives, and a deep, proven mastery of modern digital distribution ecosystems. This candidate must demonstrate exceptional, hands-on expertise in YouTube ecosystem management (channel strategy, SEO, thumbnail/title optimization, audience retention metrics) social video (TikTok, Reels and Shorts), podcast production and multi-platform distribution. You will be responsible for originating digital concepts, building pitch materials to secure underwriting and grant funding, and managing end-to-end execution, budget and project schedules for new digital media projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Concept development & digital platform strategy (40%)
- Digital strategy & execution: Contribute to channel management and content strategy across YouTube, social video platforms, and podcast feeds to maximize audience reach, retention and subscriber growth.
- Project ideation: Identify, develop and shape new digital concepts (YouTube series, video podcasts, short form social video) tailored to algorithmic discovery and public media mission goals.
- Sponsorship & pitch support: Partner directly with Business Development and Sponsorship teams to create compelling pitch decks, sizzle reels, treatments, and scope-of-work documents for prospective donors and corporate sponsors.
- Branded content integration: Translate sponsor objectives into engaging, mission-aligned YouTube and digital content opportunities while preserving public media standards, editorial integrity, and FCC/FTC guidelines.
- Workflow integration: Transition new digital projects seamlessly from the development stage into active, scalable production workflows with the production unit.
- Stays on top of emerging platform trends and production innovations and identifies and pursues areas of opportunity for the organization.
Production management & delivery (40%)
- Project lifecycle management: Oversee the full execution of greenlit YouTube, podcast, and social video projects from pre-production through final delivery.
- Budgeting & schedules: Develop, manage, and reconcile project budgets and master timelines. Ensure digital deliverables are launched on schedule and within financial parameters.
- Vendor & crew oversight: Leverage internal production resources or source and oversee the work of external producers or production agencies.
- Asset & deliverables management: Supervise metadata, custom thumbnails, platform spec compliance, analytics tracking and asset delivery across all digital platforms.
- Project shut downs: Responsible for managing and delivering all elements required for project shut downs for Legal, monetization and archiving purposes.
Interdepartmental & Legal liaison (20%)
- Act as the primary liaison between production, legal, contracts and business affairs teams.
- Coordinate contract negotiations, talent releases, music rights, digital licensing and sponsor clearance documents with legal counsel.
- Serve as the main point of contact for internal stakeholders regarding product status, milestone tracking and deliverable handoffs.
SKILL SET
- Platform mastery: Exceptional mastery of YouTube and social algorithms, video optimization (titles, thumbnails, chapters, cards) social video formats (Shorts, Reels, TikTok) and podcast RSS distribution.
- Public media knowledge: Familiarity with or strong adaptability to public media values and non-profit development models (grants, sponsorship).
- Production management skills: Demonstrated success in developing production budgets, complex timelines, resource allocation, and managing external video crews and editors.
- Pitch & development capabilities: Track record of crafting treatments, pitch decks and digital proposals that have successfully secured funding or corporate sponsorship.
- Business & legal savvy: Experience navigating talent agreements, digital rights management, music licensing, sponsored content guidelines and client management.
- Communication: Exceptional cross-functional communication skills; ability to bridge technical, creative and business language across teams.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required. 5+ years of digital production experience, with proven agency experience leading branded content, sponsored initiatives or client-facing digital video productions.
