The Chief Counsel, Global Investigations is a senior legal leader within Tyson Foods' Ethics, Compliance and Investigations organization, responsible for the strategy, governance, execution, and oversight of significant internal and external investigations involving alleged violations of law, the Code of Conduct, company policies, workplace misconduct, fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest, government inquiries, and other high-risk matters.
This role reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and leads a global team of ~45 investigative professionals across our domestic and international operations. The Chief Counsel partners closely with Legal, Ethics, Compliance, Human Resources, Global Security, Internal Audit, Food Safety & Quality Assurance, Cybersecurity, and business leadership to ensure investigations are conducted thoroughly, objectively, and consistently. The Chief Counsel also manages outside counsel as necessary, coordinates responses to external government regulatory investigative inquiries, and periodically briefs the Audit Committee and/or Board of Directors on significant matters, trends, and enforcement risk.
This role is a key member of the Ethics, Compliance and Investigations leadership team and helps drive Tyson's commitment to integrity, accountability, and a speak-up culture.
Responsibilities Include
Investigations Leadership
- Lead Tyson's global investigations strategy and investigative governance framework, including leading a large team of investigative professionals and fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Direct investigations including: Potential violations of law
- Code of Conduct violations
- Fraud and financial misconduct
- Workplace misconduct
- Corruption and bribery allegations
- Conflicts of interest
- Vendor misconduct and kickback allegations
- Human rights concerns
- Significant reputational risk matters
- Ensure investigations are performed in a timely, thorough, objective, and defensible manner.
- Establish investigation standards, methodologies, protocols, and reporting requirements.
- Own the annual investigations function budget, including management of outside counsel spend and vendor/forensic resources.
Government and Regulatory Matters
- Lead internal investigative responses arising from government inquiries, inspections, audits, subpoenas, civil investigative demands, and enforcement actions.
- Coordinate investigative efforts with outside counsel when appropriate.
- Brief senior leadership, and periodically the Audit Committee and/or Board, regarding significant regulatory and enforcement risks.
- Support the development of legal and compliance strategies designed to mitigate regulatory exposure.
Internal Investigations Oversight
- Provide strategic oversight and guidance for internal investigation teams across Tyson's global operations.
- Ensure consistency in investigative quality, documentation, substantiation determinations, and remediation recommendations.
- Partner with HR leadership to address employee misconduct and workplace culture concerns.
- Identify systemic trends and emerging risks across investigation categories.
- Utilize data analytics and insights to identify patterns, root causes, and opportunities for preventive measures.
Training and Development
- Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the investigative skills and knowledge of the global investigative team.
- Promote continuous professional development within the team, ensuring they are equipped with the latest tools, techniques, and best practices.
Experience Required
- Proven track record of successfully managing a large, diverse, global team of professionals.
- In-depth knowledge of legal, regulatory, and compliance frameworks related to corporate investigations.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, including experience presenting to executive leadership, Audit Committee, and/or Board audiences.
- Ability to think strategically, drive change, and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion and confidentiality.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across a matrixed global organization.
- Experience managing budgets and outside counsel relationships.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally as needed to support global investigations.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- 15+ years of experience leading complex investigations, with significant experience in a multinational organization and/or law enforcement, regulatory agency, or prosecutorial background strongly preferred.
- Active bar membership in good standing.
- Experience leading a team of investigators.
Travel: Occasional travel based on need up to 10%.
