About this role
We are seeking a Design Engineer to support the development, testing, and improvement of precision motion-control products, with an emphasis on DC motors and related motor-system components. This is an early-career engineering role ideal for someone with 1 to 3 years of experience who wants to grow technical expertise in motor design, electromechanical systems, product development, and manufacturing support.
The Design Engineer will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, sales, and applications teams to support new product development, sustaining engineering, customer-specific designs, and continuous improvement projects.
What You Will Do
- Support the design, analysis, and improvement of DC motors, motor components, and related motion-control products.
- Create and update CAD models, drawings, specifications, test plans, and engineering documentation.
- Assist with prototype builds, product testing, troubleshooting, and design validation.
- Use test data, customer requirements, and manufacturing feedback to recommend design improvements.
- Support new product introduction and sustaining engineering activities.
- Assist with manufacturability improvements, product cost reduction, material evaluations, and production support.
- Work with senior engineers, designers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to solve technical problems.
- Support engineering change processes and maintain accurate product documentation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, test methods, and design practices.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant engineering experience, including internships or co-op experience.
- Experience with 3D CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks.
- Foundational understanding of mechanical design, electromechanical systems, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Interest in developing expertise in DC motors, brush motors, brushless DC motors, drives, gearboxes, encoders, brakes, lead screws, and integrated motor systems.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret test results and use data to support engineering decisions.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Curiosity, initiative, and desire to grow in a hands-on technical engineering role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with motors, motion control, robotics, automation, medical devices, industrial equipment, or precision electromechanical products.
- Hands-on experience with prototype builds, product testing, troubleshooting, or failure analysis.
- Exposure to BOMs, drawings, PLM systems, configuration management, or engineering change processes.
- Basic understanding of motor performance characteristics such as torque, speed, current, voltage, efficiency, thermal behavior, life, noise, and vibration.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, quality investigations, suppliers, or cost-reduction projects.
