Job Title: Laboratory Technician Job Description
The Laboratory Technician supports technical programs by generating and evaluating lab-scale samples, performing analytical testing, and providing accurate data to guide process and product decisions. This role focuses on laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, and manufacturing support while ensuring strict adherence to safety and environmental standards.
Responsibilities
- Generate and evaluate lab-scale samples to support customer technical programs, process and product research initiatives, and manufacturing activities.
- Conduct testing and property evaluations on samples to provide reliable data for technical and commercial decision-making.
- Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain laboratory and production-related equipment required for routine processing and machine scale-up work.
- Maintain accurate logs, notebooks, and other records, including electronic documents, to ensure traceability and compliance with internal procedures.
- Perform internet and other information searches to support problem solving, technical investigations, and continuous improvement activities.
- Carry out stoichiometric calculations for production using computer programs or hand calculations to support formulation and process development.
- Understand, follow, and promote EHS standard operating procedures and Responsible Care rules, regulations, and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively while working under more than one technical supervisor.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and research personnel to support scale-up, production trials, and ongoing process improvements.
- Interface directly with customers when needed, providing timely and accurate technical results to help assure the quality of products shipped.
- Deliver test results and technical information within agreed timelines to support product quality assurance and customer satisfaction.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of work experience as a laboratory technician.
- Bachelors degree in a scientific field such as biology, chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on laboratory experience in biology, chemistry, or related scientific areas.
- Ability to perform stoichiometric calculations using both computer-based tools and manual methods.
- Competence in troubleshooting and maintaining laboratory and processing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail in maintaining logs, notebooks, and electronic records.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under the direction of more than one technical supervisor.
- Ability to collaborate with manufacturing and research personnel to support technical programs.
- Commitment to following EHS procedures and Responsible Care guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to provide timely results for internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Three years of work experience as a laboratory technician or in a similar scientific role is preferred.
- Experience supporting customer technical programs and providing technical data for decision-making.
- Comfort interfacing directly with customers to discuss test results and product quality.
- Experience with machine scale-up work and supporting production processes.
- Familiarity with using computer programs for calculations, data entry, and record keeping.
- Ability to conduct effective internet and literature searches for technical problem solving.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and sharing results with cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
The role is based in a laboratory setting that closely interfaces with manufacturing operations. You will work with scientific instrumentation, processing equipment, and computer systems to generate and evaluate samples, perform calculations, and maintain detailed records. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to EHS procedures and Responsible Care guidelines to ensure safety and environmental stewardship. Work involves managing multiple tasks and collaborating with technical supervisors, manufacturing staff, research personnel, and occasionally customers, in a professional, quality-focused culture.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
