WMCG is seeking a full-time, experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to support and coordinate the procedural aspects of the Interventional Pulmonology (IP) program at Wellstar-MCG Health. This APP will assist in caring for patients with lung cancer, metastatic lung disease, or undiagnosed pulmonary lesions.
You’ll play a key role in evaluating patients, preparing them for procedures, and coordinating post-procedure care alongside physicians, nurse navigators, and the broader pulmonary team. Procedural training will be provided, including thoracentesis, chest tube placement, and ultrasound guidance.
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care (80%)
• Serve as the primary contact for inpatient IP consults and new referrals
• Evaluate and triage patients for Interventional Pulmonology procedures
• Complete H&Ps, order labs and imaging, and oversee both inpatient and outpatient care
• Coordinate all pre- and post-procedure processes for seamless patient care
• Collaborate with Anesthesia, Endoscopy, and OR teams for efficient scheduling
• Manage pleural catheter patients (training provided)
• Provide education to patients and families regarding procedures and follow-up care
• Attend clinics and rounds with IP attending physicians
• Support multidisciplinary case discussions and clinical trial coordination
• Review all new inpatient interventional Pulmonology consults.
• Be first call for all inpatient interventional Pulmonology consults.
• Prepare and evaluate patients for appropriate procedures in conjunction
with the IP attending on call
Administrative (20%)
• Maintain a current calendar and database of all IP procedures
• Assist in developing and maintaining clinical protocols and SOPs
• Participate in thoracic tumor boards, pulmonary case conferences, and staff meetings
• Support quality improvement and research initiatives
• Complete required documentation for FMLA, disability, and insurance as needed
Qualifications
• Licensure: Current Georgia NP or PA license (or eligibility)
• Certification: Acute Care certification required
• Education: Completion of an accredited APP training program
• Experience: Hospital-based experience preferred; oncology or ICU background a plus
• Skills: Strong interest in interventional and procedural medicine, teamwork, patient-centered care
