OVERVIEW
Complex semiconductor equipment requires documentation that keeps engineering, manufacturing, service, and customers aligned from product development through field support. As a Senior Technical Writer, you will turn detailed electrical, mechanical, software, service, and test information into accurate, user-focused content that helps people build, install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Veeco systems. You will lead documentation for new product programs and engineering changes, verify procedures directly on equipment, and strengthen the standards that govern controlled content. Your work will improve knowledge transfer, product readiness, service execution, and the consistency of documentation across the equipment lifecycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead documentation strategy and execution for new products, product enhancements, engineering changes, and sustaining programs, delivering accurate content on schedule with minimal supervision.
- Create and maintain installation, assembly, operation, maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and test documentation for print, web, multimedia, and embedded delivery.
- Translate complex engineering input into clear procedures and reference content for technical and nontechnical audiences, with information organized around user needs and task outcomes.
- Validate procedures on semiconductor capital equipment by interviewing engineers and technicians, observing installation and testing, and operating or inspecting systems as needed.
- Resolve documentation gaps by reviewing engineering redlines, drawings, specifications, and work instructions for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and usability.
- Define and improve documentation standards, templates, tools, and workflows that strengthen release, revision, approval, traceability, and audit readiness.
- Raise content quality across Engineering by mentoring writers and contributors, conducting peer reviews, and representing documentation on cross-functional product teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree, technical degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 10 or more years of technical writing experience supporting semiconductor, medical, or similarly complex mechanical and electrical equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Skilled at converting electrical, mechanical, software, service, and test information into precise, task-based procedures.
- Able to interview subject-matter experts, challenge unclear technical input, and confirm accuracy without losing critical detail.
- Experienced in organizing large documentation sets and managing concurrent assignments, reviews, schedules, and releases.
- Knowledgeable about controlled-document practices, revision control, approval workflows, traceability, and audit requirements.
- Proficient in developing graphics, sketches, templates, and page layouts that improve comprehension and consistency.
- Experience with Adobe FrameMaker and graphics-editing tools is preferred.
- Effective at coaching contributors and building productive working relationships across Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Quality, and other product teams.
- Demonstrated experience independently documenting complex equipment through direct observation, operation, installation, test, maintenance, or service activities
