Straz Center for the Performing Arts is seeking a Senior Manager of Security to join our team. This role translates the Senior Director of Security's strategic direction into day‑to‑day execution, overseeing security services, emergency preparedness, workplace safety programs, parking operations, physical security systems, and departmental support services to ensure safe, secure, customer‑focused operations that protect people, facilities, and assets while supporting exceptional guest experiences.
Essential Functions:
- Lead daily operations of the Safety & Security Department in collaboration with the Security Manger and Security Supervisors, overseeing staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and operational readiness for performances, events, educational programming, and emergencies.
- Implement departmental priorities, policies, procedures, and performance standards established by the Senior Director of Safety & Security; monitor metrics, inspections, audits, and incident reviews to drive continuous improvement.
- Direct campus security operations, including deployment of officers, public ingress and screening, access control, patrols, key control, incident response, reporting, and after‑action reviews.
- Oversee day‑to‑day administration and functionality of physical security systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, visitor management, credentialing, radio communications) and coordinate with IT, Facilities, and vendors on maintenance and upgrades.
- Support emergency management and workplace safety; act as designee for the Senior Director during emergencies when needed.
- Serve as primary operational liaison with internal departments and public safety partners, participating in planning and production meetings, and coordinating operational security requirements for performances, special events, and campus activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises the Manager of Security and other assigned supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Strong operational leadership, incident management, workplace safety, and physical security systems experience in dynamic, customer‑focused environments, with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead teams across shifts.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with employees, guests, students, volunteers, contractors, vendors, public safety agencies, and organizational leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to lead daily operations, coordinate multiple workgroups, and effectively manage personnel in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership, team building, coaching, and mentoring skills with a demonstrated commitment to employee development and succession planning.
- The position requires calm, professional response to emergencies and critical incidents and the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Business/Public Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field required; or experience in lieu of.
- Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in security, public safety, emergency management, military, law enforcement, venue or hospitality operations, or related fields, including at least 5 years of supervisory/management experience.
Certifications / Licenses:
- Valid Florida driver's license and successful Level 2 background screening.
- Florida Class "D" Security Officer license required; Class "M" or "MB" Security Agency Manager license preferred.
- CPR/AED and Basic First Aid required; professional security/emergency certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP, APP, CEM) preferred.

- The employee must be capable of responding quickly and effectively to emergency situations occurring anywhere on campus.
- The employee must regularly move up to 10 pounds, frequently move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and via two-way radio while exchanging information with employees, guests, students, emergency responders, contractors, vendors, and members of the public.
- The nature of this position requires regular on-site presence as an essential function of the job.

- Work is performed across office, event, campus, and outdoor environments with frequent movement throughout Straz Center
- Regular exposure to moderate to loud noise levels, large crowds, and live performance settings.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors, and may require exposure to extreme weather conditions, including heat.
