Ko wai mātou | Who are we
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is a hapū of Ngāti Whātua. We live in and around the Tāmaki isthmus. We hold to our mana motuhake, our history, our culture, our identity, and our reo. Our whakapapa traces to Tuperiri and the hapū Ngā Oho, Te Taoū, and Te Uringutu.
We are tangata whenua in Tāmaki. Our authority over land and sea rests on take tupuna, take raupatu, ahi kā, and tuku whenua.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust looks after the collective affairs of our hapū. We have more than 8,000 registered members across Aotearoa and overseas. Ōrākei Marae is our cultural hub.
Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri describes the protective reach of our ancestor across our rohe.
Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity
Kia Angitū te Anamata is the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei summer internship programme for uri currently completing tertiary study.
This year, we are offering one application process, with placements available across a range of teams and areas of mahi. Placements will be based on available opportunities, organisational needs, and the skills, studies and interests of successful applicants.
As an intern, you will:
- Complete meaningful mahi within your placement team.
- Gain practical experience aligned, where possible, with your studies and career interests.
- Work alongside experienced kaimahi and leaders.
- Build your confidence, workplace capability and professional networks.
- Learn more about how Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei works to deliver outcomes for whānau.
- Take part in programme activities, wānanga and a collaborative group project.
- Strengthen your connection to Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei kaupapa, people and places.

Ko wai koe | About you
We are looking for uri who:
- Are currently completing tertiary study;
- Are ready to gain practical workplace experience;
- Can communicate well and work collaboratively with others;
- Are open to learning, feedback and new challenges; and
- Can manage their time, workload and responsibilities with support.
Previous work experience is helpful but not essential. We welcome applicants from a wide range of study areas, backgrounds and levels of experience.

- Programme begins: Wednesday, 18 November 2026
- Programme concludes: Wednesday, 17 February 2027
- A two week summer shutdown period will apply over Christmas and New Year.
