About this role
To supervise and support the safe, efficient, and reliable execution of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations for deepwater drilling projects. The role is primarily field-based, with responsibility for overseeing MPD operations, providing technical guidance to field personnel, ensuring equipment readiness, and maintaining compliance with HSE standards and operational procedures.
The position will also support workshop activities at the Narogong facility when required, including equipment preparation, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and pre-mobilization readiness to ensure successful project execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and oversee day-to-day MPD operations for deepwater drilling projects at the assigned field or rig site.
- Ensure MPD equipment and systems are installed, tested, commissioned, operated, and maintained in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to MPD field personnel to ensure safe and efficient operational execution.
- Monitor MPD system performance and operating parameters, identify potential operational issues, and coordinate troubleshooting and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with drilling contractors, client representatives, rig personnel, and internal Weatherford teams to ensure effective project execution.
- Participate in pre-job planning, operational meetings, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and contingency planning.
- Ensure compliance with Weatherford and client HSE requirements, safe work procedures, and applicable operational standards.
- Identify and address operational risks, equipment deficiencies, and unsafe conditions, taking appropriate action when necessary.
- Support workshop activities at the Narogong facility, including equipment inspection, assembly, maintenance, function testing, and preparation for field deployment.
- Verify equipment readiness, availability of required tools and spare parts, and completion of relevant inspection and testing documentation before mobilization.
- Ensure accurate completion of daily operational reports, equipment checklists, shift handovers, and other required technical documentation.
- Coordinate equipment and personnel requirements to minimize downtime and support operational efficiency.
- Provide regular updates to the MPD Project Manager or designated supervisor regarding operational performance, equipment status, and project requirements.
- Work on a rotational schedule of four weeks on duty followed by two weeks off, with flexibility to support field and workshop activities as required.
SKILLS
- Strong technical knowledge of Managed Pressure Drilling systems and deepwater drilling operations.
- Proven field supervision, operational coordination, and team leadership capabilities.
- Hands-on experience with MPD equipment installation, commissioning, operation, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to monitor operational parameters, identify abnormal conditions, and implement approved corrective actions.
- Knowledge of MPD operating procedures, risk assessments, contingency plans, and emergency response requirements.
- Experience in equipment inspection, maintenance, workshop preparation, and pre-mobilization readiness.
- Strong understanding of HSE requirements, hazard identification, and safe operating practices.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, drilling contractors, field crews, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Ability to work under pressure in demanding field environments while maintaining high standards of safety and operational performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of total experience in the oil and gas industry .
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on MPD experience involving deepwater drilling projects , preferably in a Field Specialist or equivalent role.
- Demonstrated experience supervising MPD field operations and coordinating technical activities in deepwater drilling environments.
- Proven experience in MPD equipment operation, troubleshooting, testing, and operational readiness.
- Experience supporting workshop preparation and equipment mobilization activities is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of applicable HSE requirements, operational procedures, and client standards.
- Willingness to work on a 4-weeks-on / 2-weeks-off rotation and support site-based operations and workshop activities at Narogong, Indonesia, as required.
