We are currently seeking a vibrant experienced VP candidate to join the Japan Compliance Team in the Corporate Bank Business Line pillar. This role presents an excellent opportunity to be part of a regional dynamic team located in Japan which will allow you to grow professionally, gain exposure to global and regional compliance matters, and work hands on with the Corporate Bank business with the aim of protecting the interests of our clients and the integrity and reputation of Deutsche Bank. Corporate Bank is a core business unit of Deutsche Bank.
This role is within Corporate Bank Business Line Compliance advisory team and has a broad range of responsibilities across an array of compliance related topics including guidance on applicable regulations, reviewing transactions, managing risk assessments, providing compliance advisory, designing compliance programs, monitoring, executing on compliance strategies, finalizing policies and procedures and implementation of regional and global projects. Japan Corporate Bank includes the full suite of Corporate Bank products and businesses including Structured Trade & Export Finance, Trade Flow Advisory & Services, Corporate Cash Management, Institutional Cash & Trade, Trust & Agency Service and Risk Management Solutions (FX and derivative related business).
The CB Business Line Compliance lead Compliance Team provides guidance to these business areas on specific matters, identifies potential risks, and acts as a check and challenge function to ensure adequate controls within the Business area. This role is for a Business Line VP to provide this guidance from a local perspective and to ensure the right level of subject matter expertise and decision making across a major business area and source of most regulatory attention in Japan. The CB Business Line Compliance lead will also participate in regional and global products related to CB Compliance and other general Compliance areas. The VP to report both to the Head of Japan Compllaince, and the Regional Head of CB Compliance based in MEA.

Your key responsibilities:
- Advise and support the coverage of Corporate Bank Business predominantly in Japan but also APAC on applicable laws and regulations, including the provision of impact analyses, and the development of responses to, and implementation of, new regulations.
- Provide constructive and effective check and challenge for adherence to applicable laws, (Banking Act, including Foreign Bank Agency provisions), Compliance owned risks and internal policies with respect to specific transactions/deals and general business activities based on an understanding of business strategies and product portfolios.
- Assess new business initiatives, new product and new transaction approvals and processes for consistency with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure global and local Compliance policies and procedures are reviewed and updated on a timely basis, incorporating regulatory changes and industry best practice.
- Provide support to the Business on cross border transaction and businesses. This will require good interpersonal skills to deal with Compliance officers through APMEA and the Business located in Japan, the APMEA region and globally, including developing a strong working knowledge of jurisdictions through APMEA.
- Assist in the execution of ad-hoc and key regional and global Compliance project work, and the timely resolution of regulatory or internal investigations and enquiries, communicating the results to our regulators in conjunction with Regulatory Management and Country Compliance, as necessary.
- Conduct regular compliance risk assessments, considering an array of contextual data including regulation, policies, procedures, controls, training and governance structures, escalating and assisting in the remediation of any identified gaps.
- Develop and deliver face-to-face Compliance training (over and above any global computer-based training) to the businesses as requested/required in line with regulatory requirements and annual training objectives. Training ranges from general Compliance inductions to targeted sessions on topics such as cross-border activities, conflicts of interest, and suitability and appropriateness.
- Highlight relevant regulatory changes to the Business for them to embed in the 1st line risk and control framework.
- Ensure effective communication the regulators and inspectors is proactive and effective, including for regulatory reporting, systems issues reporting and during inspections
- Liaise with regional and global counterparts to ensure regional and global requirements are consistently implemented and ensure awareness of local issues that may have a regional / global impact
- Be actively involved in regional and global Compliance projects to enhance the Bank’s processes and controls
- Assist in the preparation of management and governance reports as needed.
- Attend and/or coordinate global and regional calls as required.
Your skills and experience:
- 8+ years experience in a banking environment and knowledge that can be applied in Corporate Bank risk and control setting5+ years work experience in financial industry as a Compliance officer, including experience in Corporate Banking Compliance
- Understanding of New Economy Payments Business, and the upcoming regulatory licensing Japan for this area
- Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
- University degree or other closely related professional qualifications
- Subject matter expertise in the Corporate Banking area and preferably other general Compliance expertise
- Strong problem solving analytical skills, including ability to interpret Japan CB related regulations, and curiosity to understand the different CB Business models
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to face the Internal stakeholders and external Regulators, including during regulatory inspections
- Native Japanese level and Business level in English (both written and verbal), willing to use English in regional and global project work· Able to work independently and collaboratively with other member of the Compliance teams in Japan and global counterparts
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Able to think analytically, problem solve and undertake research.· Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with other members of the team, as well as other control functions and the business (including senior stakeholders)
