Bid Manager

This role will combine the traditional responsibilities of a Bid Manager with a strong focus on the commercial and contractual aspects of bid development and negotiation. The individual will be responsible for managing the end-to-end bid process while ensuring bids are commercially sound, legally compliant, and maximize profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

End-to-End Bid Management:

- Oversee and manage the entire bid lifecycle, from opportunity identification and qualification through to contract award and handover.
- Develop and maintain bid plans, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Ensure timely and compliant submission of high-quality bids/proposals.

Commercial Strategy and Development:

- Develop and implement commercial strategies for individual bids, aligning with the overall business strategy and profitability targets.
- Work closely with sales, finance, and legal teams to define pricing strategies, risk assessments, and commercial terms.
- Develop innovative commercial solutions and value propositions to enhance bid competitiveness.

Contractual Oversight and Negotiation:

- Review and analyze client contractual requirements and identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Develop and negotiate commercial terms and conditions, ensuring they are favorable and protect the company's interests.
- Work with legal teams to ensure contractual compliance and mitigate potential liabilities.

Bid Governance and Compliance:

- Establish and enforce bid governance processes and ensure adherence to internal policies and client requirements.
- Manage bid approvals and ensure all necessary stakeholders are involved in the decision-making process.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive bid documentation.

Stakeholder Management:

- Serve as the primary point of contact for all commercial and contractual aspects of the bid.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams (sales, technical, finance, legal, operations) and external stakeholders (clients, partners, subcontractors).
- Manage expectations and resolve commercial and contractual issues effectively.

Risk and Opportunity Management:

- Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks associated with each bid.
- Identify and pursue commercial opportunities to improve bid value and profitability.

Post-Bid Analysis and Improvement:

- Analyze win/loss data and conduct post-bid reviews to identify areas for improvement in commercial and contractual strategies.
- Contribute to the development of best practices and knowledge sharing within the bid management function.
- Proactively seek feedback and identify opportunities to enhance bid efficiency and effectiveness.

Market and Competitor Analysis:

- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and pricing strategies to inform commercial bid decisions.
- Understand the commercial landscape and identify opportunities for differentiation.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in business administration (master’s degree would be an added advantage), Finance or a related field (or equivalent experience). APMP certification would be highly advantageous.
- Proven experience in bid management, commercial management, contract management, or a related role, with a demonstrable track record of successful bid outcomes.
- Strong understanding of commercial principles, financial analysis, risk management, and contract law.
- Experience in healthcare advantageous and familiarity with relevant procurement regulations and frameworks.
- Experience in negotiating complex commercial agreements.

- Leadership and Influencing: Ability to lead and influence stakeholders on commercial and contractual matters.
- IT Proficiency: Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and bid management software/tools.
