About this role
About Six Robotics
At Six Robotics, we build intelligent software that gives Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) the ability to collaborate, adapt on the fly, and execute missions that were previously impossible.
From our base in Oslo, our team of 90+ engineers, researchers, and defence specialists develops our autonomy and swarm platform, used by both government and industry. Working closely with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) and end users, we move quickly from ideas to field deployment, solving problems where software meets the real world.
The challenges we work on don’t come with existing playbooks. They demand deep technical thinking, close collaboration across disciplines, and the ability to learn quickly as both the technology and the company evolve.
At Six Robotics, every person executes with precision, adapts to changing conditions, and strengthens the team. If you’re excited about building systems that matter and growing alongside talented people that push boundaries every day, you’ll find no better place to deliver real-world impact.
About The Role
We are looking for a dedicated Release Manager to own the execution and coordination of our quarterly releases, from the first planning session until the software is ready to be shipped to our customers.
This role is needed as the organization grows, and so does the complexity of our product development and engineering work. The Engineering teams are organised by discipline rather than by feature, which means deliveries depend on cross-team collaboration across Engineering, design, and testing. Until now, release coordination has been handled alongside other roles. As we scale, we need one person in Engineering who owns the release, sees the full picture and makes sure every team knows what it needs from the others to deliver on time and agreed quality.
You will make sure our releases are realistically scoped, that dependencies between teams surface early, and that code freeze, branch-off and backporting run smoothly. You will be the bridge between Product, who defines what we want to build, and Engineering, who knows what is possible. Going forward, you will also bring Operations, Customer Success and other stakeholders into a more structured release process.
Your impact in the first year. You will turn release coordination into a clear, repeatable system. Team Leads will know what they depend on and when. Stakeholders will have real-time visibility into progress and risks. Engineering teams will work towards goals that are predictable and achievable, without unsustainable pressure.
What success looks like after 6–12 months:
- Public releases ship on time and with high quality
- Delivery risks and issues are identified and addressed early
- Stakeholders have clear visibility into progress, scope changes and risks
- Engineering teams experience predictable goals, and internal roadmaps become a source of motivation
- Release processes are structured and scalable, and cross-team alignment has measurably improved
- Release cadence is reduced to two months, without increased total overhead or decreased delivery quality
What You Will Do
- Own the release end to end : Plan and run our quarterly public releases, from scoping to handover to Operations and Mission Readiness.
- Make plans realistic: Work with stakeholders from Product and Engineering in the planning phase to turn requirements into scoped, achievable delivery plans that match engineering capacity.
- Map and drive dependencies : Highlight inter-team dependencies across all engineering teams, design, test and Field Application Engineers.
- Run the execution rhythm : Hold status meetings with Team Leads, track what is ahead of and behind schedule, and create action plans to avoid delay.
- Manage risk and trade-offs: Identify risks and bottlenecks early, show the consequences of scope changes and delays, recommend mitigations and escalate when needed. You act as the buffer before change requests reach the engineering teams.
- Create visibility and structure: Give leadership, Engineering, Product, and Operations clear reporting on progress and risks, and build release processes that scale as we grow.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a specialised technical project manager to be a dedicated Release Manager. You will sit in Engineering and work closely with the CTO, VP Engineering, Chief of Staff, Team Leads, Product, and Operations. You need to understand engineers well enough to sense how serious a problem is when they raise it, but you are not the technical owner of the deliverables and you won't dive deep into technical problem-solving. This role is currently standalone in ownership and highly collaborative in execution, without any director reports, however the function and team might expand over time.
- Efficient and clear communicator
- Around 5 years of relevant experience, for example as a technical project manager, development manager or release manager coordinating development across multiple teams in a Software or Product environment
- An engineering or computer science background, ideally from software or combined hardware/software environments
- Solid technical understanding of version control, CI/CD pipelines, development and testing environments, and modern software delivery processes, and confidence working in Jira
- Highly structured and organised, with a proven ability to set up processes, plan, and manage risk across many stakeholders
- Proactive by nature: you spot and fill gaps, and when one release is out, you are already planning the next
- Strong people skills and clear communication, both written and verbal, with the ability to stay positive and light-hearted when things get stressful
- Motivated by owning a critical function in a fast-moving startup and comfortable operating in ambiguity
It is a plus if you have hands-on experience with Git, a software engineering background, or experience from defence or innovation-driven product development. Experience from management or strategy consulting can also be highly relevant if combined with strong technical understanding.
Why You Should Join
- Build at the edge of what’s possible: You’ll work on problems the industry hasn’t solved yet, alongside people who are pushing the boundaries of autonomy, AI, and robotics.
- Grow as fast as the company: We believe that chance favours those in motion. The role you’re hired into is just the starting point. As Six Robotics evolves, so will your scope, your responsibilities, and your opportunities.
- Work with exceptional people: Surround yourself with people who raise your own standards. You’ll join a team of ambitious engineers and operators who care deeply about the quality of their work. Expectations are high, but so is the willingness to help each other improve.
- Ship work that matters. The things you build don't stay in a demo environment. They get deployed, tested, and used where reliability and performance genuinely matter.
- Supported by great benefits. Alongside meaningful work, we offer competitive compensation, equity potential, strong pension and insurance plans, gadget budgets, modern equipment, panoramic offices, and the flexibility you need to do your best work.
Our Recruitment Process
We want hiring to be transparent and respectful of your time. We aim to move with momentum while making thoughtful hiring decisions - because every new team member matters.
Our process typically includes:
- Initial phone screening (30 min): A conversation about your background, motivation, and the role.
- First interview (45 min): Meet the hiring team, learn more about Six Robotics, and discuss your experience.
- Second interview (60–90 min): A technical discussion, typically including a take-home assignment or case presentation.
- Final interview (45 min): Meet members of our leadership team to align expectations and answer any remaining questions.
Reference checks are conducted before an offer is finalized. We review applications continuously, so don't leave us hanging. Send us your application today!
