HNTB is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to join our Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture Practice within the New York Planning & Environment Group. This leadership role offers the opportunity to manage multidisciplinary planning and design projects while overseeing a diverse portfolio of public realm and urban mobility initiatives that enhance the transportation experience and support transformative infrastructure investments throughout the New York metropolitan region. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of planning, landscape architecture, and urban design expertise, with experience leading projects that create more connected, sustainable, and vibrant communities.

Serving as both project manager and technical leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for guiding projects from concept through implementation, including developing scopes of work, leading technical proposals and procurements, supporting contract negotiations, and overseeing successful project delivery. They will proactively manage budgets, schedules, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications while coordinating multidisciplinary teams of planners, landscape architects, urban designers, environmental specialists, and engineers. The candidate will also support business development efforts, mentor and develop staff, and contribute to the continued growth of HNTB's Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture Practice while delivering quality work on time, on budget, and to the client's satisfaction.

What You'll Do:

- Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
- Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Leads or actively participates in client contract scoping and negotiations.
- Leads and prepares design documents, technical plans, written reports on projects
- Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
- Responsible for/oversees project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, hiring, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.
- Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships and pursuit efforts for mini-mega and mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic, mini-mega and mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
- May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
- Typically responsible for management of project team(s) for one or more strategic (<$1M) or mini-mega ($1M to <$5M) projects, or may lead and/or work as a discipline lead on a mega ($5M to < $25M) project management team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field and 10 years relevant experience
- 2 years of successful management of projects

What You'll Bring:

- Proven experience successfully winning, contracting, and delivering multidisciplinary projects that achieve quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction goals, including risk and change management.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants on complex planning, urban design, landscape architecture, and transportation-related projects.
- Strong client management, stakeholder engagement, and facilitation skills, with experience serving as the primary client interface for public-sector agencies such as NYCDOT, NYC Parks, MTA, and NYSDOT.
- Strong graphic communication, site planning, urban design, and public realm design skills.
- Experience developing scopes of work, technical proposals, strategic pursuits, and business development opportunities.
- Proficiency using project management systems and tools to monitor project performance, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.

What We Prefer:

- Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field.
- Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) and American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP),
- 12 years relevant experience

The approximate pay range for New York is $158,688.55 - $248,205.18. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position based on all selected locations within the state at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
