Job Summary
Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join our established Neurosurgery & Spine Associates practice in Grapevine, Texas. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside a highly specialized neurosurgical team providing comprehensive care for patients with degenerative spine disorders, cervical, thoracic and lumbar conditions, spinal trauma, brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, and other complex neurological conditions. The practice serves patients throughout Northeast Tarrant County and provides both surgical and non-surgical treatment options.
The Physician Assistant will provide a blend of outpatient clinic, inpatient rounding, perioperative management, and surgical first assist responsibilities , partnering closely with the neurosurgical team. Responsibilities include evaluating and managing patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings, assisting in spine and neurosurgical procedures, providing perioperative care, hospital rounding, and supporting continuity of care throughout the patient journey.
This role is ideal for a Physician Assistant with prior Neurosurgery or Orthopedic Spine experience who enjoys a hands-on surgical practice and developing long-term relationships with patients and physicians within a close-knit team environment.

- Occasional coverage at the Flower Mound clinic a few times per month
- Monday-Friday schedule
- Daytime hours: FT
- Combination of: Outpatient clinic
- Inpatient hospital rounding
- Surgical First Assist responsibilities
- Work one-on-one with an experienced neurosurgeon
- Significant involvement in spine and neurosurgical procedures
- Opportunity to care for patients with spinal stenosis, disc herniation, neck pain, back pain, spinal trauma, brain tumors, and other complex neurological disorders
- Exposure to minimally invasive spine and cranial procedures
- Dedicated Medical Assistant support, with a goal of providing physician-specific MA support
- Practice located in the Pavilion building adjacent to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Grapevine
- Small, collaborative provider team focused on delivering exceptional patient care
- Strong physician-APP partnership model

Call Responsibilities
- Approximately 6 call days per month
- Primarily phone-based call coverage
- Management of patient questions and after-hours concerns
- Occasional return to hospital if clinically necessary
- In-person call response is uncommon but may occasionally be required
- Additional compensation provided if called back to the hospital
- Call expectations are incorporated into the compensation structure

Essential Functions of the Role
- Assess patient health through comprehensive histories and physical examinations.
- Diagnose and manage neurosurgical and spine conditions in collaboration with the supervising physician.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies, laboratory testing, and imaging.
- Develop and implement treatment plans utilizing evidence-based practice.
- Perform inpatient and outpatient evaluations, consultations, and follow-up care.
- Assist in neurosurgical and spine procedures as First Assist.
- Round on hospitalized patients and provide perioperative management.
- Coordinate care across inpatient, outpatient, and surgical settings.
- Counsel patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, medications, and recovery expectations.
- Document care plans and treatment outcomes in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in call coverage and continuity of care activities.
- Perform procedures within scope of practice and demonstrated competency.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and administrative teams to optimize patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current Texas Physician Assistant license
- Current NCCPA certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
- Minimum of 2 years of Physician Assistant experience in: Neurosurgery, or
- Orthopedic Spine Surgery
- Experience assisting in surgical procedures
Preferred
- Neurosurgery experience
- Spine surgery experience
- First Assist experience in surgical specialties
- Experience managing both inpatient and outpatient neurosurgical patients
- Experience with perioperative and post-operative patient management
- Familiarity with cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine pathology

- EXPERIENCE - More than 1 Year of Experience preferred
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION
- Basic Life Support (BLS): Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Physician Assistants (PA): Must have a PA license through the state of TX.
