The AWS Cloud Engineer provides engineering, operational, automation, governance, and security support for Amazon Web Services (AWS). In this role, you will support, maintain, and optimize AWS infrastructure while developing highly available, reliable, scalable, and secure cloud solutions that enable hybrid-cloud adoption and platform modernization for enterprise applications and infrastructure workloads. You will collaborate with the Cloud Center of Excellence, Cloud Architects, and other Cloud Engineers to implement cloud solutions aligned with organizational values, goals, and enterprise architecture. You will provide tactical, hands-on support for cloud adoption initiatives, application design, administration, and monitoring while promoting simplicity, consistency, reusability, and standardization across the division. In collaboration with the ITD Architecture team, you will support the implementation of the overarching cloud vision, strategy, and approach. Additionally, you will provide subject matter expertise within assigned areas of responsibility and partner across the division with engineers and architects to understand, develop, and implement the division’s enterprise architecture. This role also requires basic knowledge of IBM Cloud Services to support the organization’s broader hybrid-cloud environment.

A caregiver in this position works remotely Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with limited travel required.

To be considered for this role, caregivers must reside in Ohio or Florida.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

- Collaborate with the Cloud Center of Excellence to develop and implement cloud solutions aligned with organizational and divisional goals.
- Architect, implement, and manage AWS-based infrastructure and cloud solutions consistent with enterprise architecture standards.
- Design, implement, and manage cloud systems to ensure optimal performance, scalability, security, availability, and reliability.
- Manage AWS services, including EC2, VPC, storage, networking, and other cloud infrastructure services.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation scripts, templates, and frameworks to streamline infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and operations.
- Apply IaC and platform automation tools, including Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt, and Terraform.
- Deploy and maintain secure cloud networking, identity management, and access control solutions.
- Support containerized workloads and OpenShift integration within the enterprise cloud environment.
- Monitor cloud environments, analyze cost and performance metrics, resolve operational issues, and implement enhancements to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Optimize cloud resource utilization and costs while maintaining performance, availability, and security requirements.
- Support cloud monitoring, logging, backup, disaster recovery, and resiliency solutions.
- Apply design principles centered on simplicity, consistency, reusability, and standardization across the division.
- Implement the division’s cloud vision and strategy in collaboration with the ITD Architecture team, ensuring progressive and integrated solutions.
- Provide subject matter expertise within assigned areas of responsibility and develop tailored solutions to address evolving technical challenges.
- Collaborate with engineers and IT architects across the division to ensure a cohesive and consistent approach to cloud architecture.
- Support frameworks and processes that facilitate the transition of products from development through sustainable production deployment.
- Engage proactively with key stakeholders, including division leaders and external partners, to develop and implement sustainable architectural solutions.
- Evaluate emerging cloud technologies, tools, and methodologies and support the adoption of innovative solutions when appropriate.
- Perform hands-on implementation and development activities, including prototyping and coding, as required.
- Support application modernization initiatives through cloud-based architecture, infrastructure, and automation.
- Implement and maintain enterprise security and governance standards across AWS environments.
- Support cloud governance, security, compliance, and operational controls.
- Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for cloud infrastructure issues.
- Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and procedures to support cloud operations and service continuity.
- Understand multi-cloud offerings and contribute to the development and maintenance of a cloud services catalog optimized for internal enterprise use.
- Remain current on emerging IT advancements and cloud technologies to position the organization to effectively leverage innovative tools, methodologies, and practices.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline
- Additional experience or relevant certifications may offset some or all of education requirements
- Five years of experience working in areas of computer systems and Infrastructure
- Two years of experience specializing in cloud engineering
- Demonstrated skills in technical judgement with ability to guide decisions across systems, scale, performance, security, fault tolerance, etc.
- Experience with and significant knowledge of at least one cloud platform.
- Experience working within small to medium sized cloud engineering teams
- Ability to work across organizations and multiple stakeholders
- Interested and curious about the domain

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

- For Information Technology Division caregivers, ITIL Foundations certification
- Preferred Certifications for AWS are AWS Solutions Architect Associate/Professional, AWS SysOps Administrator, AWS Security Specialty or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
- Experience with IBM Cloud infrastructure, including IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)
- Experience with IBM Kubernetes Service (IKS) and Red Hat OpenShift
- Proficiency with Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure automation and configuration management
- Strong knowledge of cloud networking and security principles
- Experience with disaster recovery, high availability, and cloud resiliency planning
- Preferred Certifications for IBM are IBM Certified Professional Architect, IBM Cloud Professional Architect, Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat OpenShift Administration
- One+ years of IBM Cloud or hybrid cloud experience

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
