Job Description:
L3Harris has an immediate opportunity for an Engineering Technician to support the build, assembly, integration, and test of photonic and electro optic hardware for critical national security programs. We are seeking a hands on technical professional with experience in precision assembly, test, or fabrication who can follow detailed technical documentation and work with limited supervision.
Candidates from electronics, mechanical, optical, or related technical fields are encouraged to apply. Experience with engineering drawings, laboratory or manufacturing equipment, and precision tools is highly transferable. Photonics specific experience is a plus but not required—comprehensive on the job training will be provided to develop fiber handling, optical alignment, and specialized testing skills.
Essential Functions:
• Perform fabrication, assembly, integration, testing, and inspection activities in accordance with detailed work instructions, drawings, and process travelers.
• Execute tasks including optical fiber splicing and recoating, photonic circuit assembly and inspection, mechanical subassembly builds, metal soldering, microscopy, and profilometry.
• Integrate COTS optical and electrical instrumentation such as laser sources, power meters, and monitoring equipment using wiring diagrams and system block diagrams.
• Assist with equipment calibration and routine equipment checks in alignment with vendor or internal procedures.
• Accurately document work performed, capture test data, and communicate status or issues to engineering and supervision.
• Maintain adherence to high‑reliability handling, ESD, cleanliness, and safety protocols.
• Operate and maintain optical device fabrication equipment (e.g., wire bonders, photomasking tools, epoxy systems) following required training.
• Apply working knowledge of engineering processes to identify issues in straightforward situations and recommend improvements.
• Interpret and execute technical procedures, drawings, and specifications with minimal oversight.
Qualifications:
• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
• Ability to work on‑site full‑time in a classified lab environment.
• Active Top Secret/SCI with Poly clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to follow detailed technical instructions and perform precision hands‑on work.
• Experience in an optical laboratory or classified hardware environment.
• Familiarity with fiber management, optical terminations, or optical alignment.
• Basic understanding of electronics and use of measurement tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies).
• Experience with mechanical assembly, torqueing, bonding, adhesives, or precision alignment work.
• Experience capturing data, documenting work, or using digital workflow systems (MES, JIRA, or similar).
• Demonstrated consistency and attention to detail in repetitive, precision‑based tasks.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams.
