Your Role

The Centre de production de Radio-Canada in Ottawa is looking for a videographer based in Ottawa. You will be assigned primarily to the regional French Services team in Ottawa-Gatineau.

You will perform tasks related to shooting and editing news items and programs in accordance with accepted CBC/Radio-Canada standards. Though you will be performing your duties under the supervision of the Technical Producer and the Production and Resources management team, the position provides latitude for independent action, judgment and initiative, and you may be called upon to work without immediate supervision. Work is usually performed within established program formats and sometimes under pressure.

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:

- Prepare, align and set up field cameras, ensuring optimum visual and technical quality.
- Light the subject or scene; compose and record material using a handheld camera, ensuring that both visual and aural material meets technical and esthetic requirements for editing.
- Process all recorded materials and perform editing.
- In the field, perform basic maintenance on equipment.
- Shoot stills for our digital platforms.
- Craft stories, working with other team members.

As assigned or required, you may perform any or all of the following tasks:

- Ask scripted questions of subjects being recorded.
- Contribute to social media or other digital content.
- Help produce infographic content.
- Prepare documentation for international travel.
- Perform duties of an equivalent or lower classification.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

What You Bring:

- Community college graduation in television arts, or equivalent industry experience.
- Two (2) years of specialized professional experience shooting and editing news stories, for TV as well as digital platforms.
- Advanced technical knowledge and understanding of digital production and news program production methods, including an understanding of picture composition and single-camera lighting.
- Ability to shoot footage using Sony PDW-750 and Sony A7S cameras as well as iPhones.
- Ability to edit recorded material on appropriate editing systems, such as Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro, and to deliver content tailored to multiple platforms.
- Demonstrated initiative and innovative thinking, particularly with regard to adoption of new tools and production methods for digital.
- Proficient knowledge of production resource equipment, routers and recording gear at the Ottawa station.
- Resourcefulness to find solutions to technical and maintenance issues when specialized staff are not around.
- Excellent command of French (mandatory).
- Advanced oral, writing and reading proficiency in English (CCC).
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Valid travel documents and authorization to travel within North America.
- Ability to work various shift patterns, including overnights and weekends, often in unexpected overtime situations.
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining a calm, professional attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly creative, imaginative problem-solver and motivated self-starter.
