About this role
Commercial Kitchen Equipment Service Technician
Hampton Roads, VA
Your skills keep kitchens running.
When equipment goes down, a busy kitchen can’t wait. We’re looking for a mechanically minded problem-solver who enjoys figuring out what went wrong, getting it fixed, and helping customers avoid the next breakdown.
You’ll service commercial kitchen equipment for restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and other businesses throughout Hampton Roads. Bring your troubleshooting skills and technical experience—we’ll help you build on them with hands-on training and opportunities to advance.
Candidates must currently live in Williamsburg, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, or Portsmouth.
What You’ll Do
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial cooking, refrigeration, warewashing, and specialty food service equipment.
- Put your mechanical aptitude to work using diagrams, schematics, and a practical approach to solving equipment problems.
- Build trusted relationships with restaurant and hospitality managers, explaining repair needs and recommending solutions to help prevent equipment failures.
- Manage your daily service schedule, prioritize calls, and work independently while staying connected with your team.
- Participate in an emergency on-call rotation, including nights and weekends.
- Earn quarterly bonuses by meeting efficiency and productivity goals.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of technical experience in refrigeration, appliance repair, kitchen equipment, HVAC, or technical military service.
- A valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Willingness and availability to participate in the evening and weekend emergency on-call rotation.
- Availability for occasional overnight travel as assigned.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future immigration sponsorship.
Experience That Gets Our Attention
- Commercial refrigeration or commercial cooking equipment repair experience.
- Relevant technical training, licenses, or certifications, including EPA or CFESA.
- The ability to prioritize, make sound decisions, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- A customer-focused approach—you take pride in both the repair and the service you provide.
What You’ll Get
- Training that builds your skills: On-the-job and ongoing training, with the potential to earn advanced certifications.
- Tools to do the job: A company service vehicle, fuel card, computer, and cell phone for business use.
- Benefits from the start: A comprehensive benefits program, including a 401(k), pension, and paid time off, with eligibility beginning on your start date.
- Room to work independently: An independent work environment where you’ll plan your daily schedule.
- Opportunities to earn more: Quarterly bonuses tied to efficiency and productivity goals.
- A path forward: Career growth opportunities, including advanced technician and management roles.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Frequently kneel, bend, squat, push, pull, and reach; occasionally lift and carry up to 70 pounds.
- Work around moving mechanical parts, pressurized steam equipment, open flames, heated surfaces, liquids, and potential electrical hazards.
- Work in conditions that may be damp, humid, or freezing.
