ABOUT THE ROLE
Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel & Executive Meeting Center is seeking a Housekeeping Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department. Reporting to the Director of Housekeeping, this hands-on leadership role ensures that guest rooms, public areas, meeting facilities, and back-of-house spaces are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, and guest satisfaction. The Housekeeping Manager oversees room inspections, daily room assignments, staffing, inventory control, and departmental training while ensuring compliance with Marriott brand standards, hotel policies, and established cleanliness and safety guidelines. The ideal candidate has strong leadership and organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to motivate and develop a team while maintaining operational efficiency and delivering exceptional guest experience.
Essential Duties:
- Lead and supervise the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department, including room assignments, staffing, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, and back-of-house areas to ensure cleanliness, presentation, and compliance with Marriott brand standards.
- Monitor room status and coordinate with the Front Office team to ensure timely room cleaning, inspections, and availability to support guest arrivals and departures.
- Respond to guest requests, complaints, and service recovery needs promptly and professionally to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and inventory control of housekeeping supplies, cleaning chemicals, linens, towels, guest amenities, and departmental equipment.
- Develop and maintain effective cleaning schedules, deep-cleaning programs, and preventive housekeeping procedures to uphold cleanliness and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, chemical handling and safety procedures, infection prevention guidelines, Marriott brand standards, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Monitor departmental productivity, labor costs, overtime, and supply expenses to support budgetary goals and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with hotel leadership and other departments, including Front Office, Engineering, and Laundry, to resolve maintenance issues, coordinate operations, and deliver exceptional guest service.
- Maintain a professional, organized, and safe working environment while ensuring team members follow proper procedures for the use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed, including linens, supplies, and housekeeping equipment.
- Ability to walk throughout the property, stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, reach, push and pull housekeeping carts, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
Specific requirements of the role:
- Oversee daily housekeeping operations, ensuring guest rooms, public areas, meeting facilities, and other assigned areas meet established cleanliness and presentation standards.
- Manage daily staffing levels, room assignments, and workload distribution based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, VIP requests, and special events.
- Conduct room inspections and quality assurance checks, ensuring deficiencies are corrected promptly and rooms are released according to hotel standards.
- Coordinate with the Front Office and Engineering teams regarding room status discrepancies, maintenance requests, out-of-order rooms, and guest concerns.
- Monitor housekeeping productivity and performance, ensuring departmental standards and service expectations are consistently met.
- Train, coach, and develop housekeeping team members and supervisors on cleaning procedures, inspection standards, safety practices, and guest service expectations.
- Manage inventory and ordering of housekeeping supplies, guest amenities, linens, uniforms, and cleaning products while minimizing waste and controlling expenses.
- Ensure proper use, labeling, storage, and handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with safety requirements.
- Support departmental budgeting, labor management, scheduling, and payroll procedures while maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
- Maintain accurate departmental records, inspection reports, inventory logs, lost-and-found documentation, and other required reports using hotel systems and workplace technology.
- Investigate and resolve guest complaints and housekeeping-related service issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure lost-and-found items are handled, documented, stored, and returned according to hotel policies and procedures.
- Assist with deep-cleaning projects, preventive maintenance initiatives, hotel renovations, and special assignments as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or hospitality-related coursework preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of housekeeping experience in a hotel or hospitality environment, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of hotel housekeeping operations, room inspection procedures, cleaning standards, and departmental workflow.
- Working knowledge of labor management, inventory control, housekeeping supplies, chemical safety, and workplace safety regulations.
- Experience with hotel property management systems (PMS), housekeeping management systems, and computerized workplace applications preferred.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, email, and workplace technology applications.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness, quality, and guest service in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to motivate, coach, and develop team members while managing multiple priorities and meeting operational deadlines.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on hotel occupancy and business needs.
