This market-development role focuses on identifying, qualifying, developing, and influencing new projects in power generation, utilities, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), microgrids, utility infrastructure, and data center power systems. The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Process Systems and Software, and will be based out of our Calgary or Edmonton location.
The successful candidate will engage utilities, independent power producers, developers, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firms, consultants, and end users early in the project lifecycle. Power industry experience, a strong understanding of power operations, and strong technical aptitude are the priorities. Ovation and specialized automation knowledge can be developed through training and collaboration with technical specialists. Candidates who bring both power industry and automation experience are ideal, but prior deep automation expertise is not required.
Role and Responsibilities

- Position Ovation, Ovation Green SCADA, Energy Management Systems (EMS), and related solutions for new projects. Work with technical specialists on automation architectures, plant controls, SCADA, energy management, and grid integration
- Understand customer operational, reliability, resiliency, and regulatory objectives; translate power-industry needs into business value and coordinate the appropriate technical support
- Support account teams with strategic pursuit plans, capture strategies, and consultative selling through complex, long sales cycles
- Monitor utility developments, power-generation investments, AI and data center growth, and emerging energy infrastructure to build a pipeline of new Ovation opportunities
- Coordinate opportunity referrals with the team responsible for modernization and competitive displacement, maintaining clear ownership and a consistent customer experience
Qualifications and Skills
- Engineering degree, technical diploma, or equivalent industry experience
- 5+ years of power industry experience in power generation, utility operations, power infrastructure, or business development serving these markets

- Proven ability to build relationships, influence projects through complex and long sales cycles, and translate customer needs into credible business opportunities
- Strong presentation, communication, and consultative selling skills, with confidence engaging plant personnel, engineers, consultants, and executives
- Entrepreneurial work ethic with a "do what it takes" attitude and strong Customer First focus
- Valid Class 5 driver's license; regular travel is required
The following are assets, not requirements. Candidates with strong power industry experience and technical aptitude are encouraged to apply:
- Experience with distributed control systems (DCS), SCADA, plant controls, power automation systems, or energy management systems (EMS)
- Familiarity with Ovation, Ovation Green SCADA, or competing power automation platforms
- Understanding of BESS, microgrids, distributed generation, and utility interconnections
- Ability to hold detailed discussions about automation architectures, control philosophies, and system integration approaches with customers and consultants
- Experience with data center backup generation, mission-critical power systems, or islanded power applications
- Knowledge of grid synchronization, load management, dispatch, energy management, utility interconnection requirements, operating compliance, monitoring, reporting, or reliability standards
