Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Opportunity

Join the Capital Markets and Advisory (CMA) Technology team as a Senior Consultant Specialist - Full-Stack Developer supporting Primary+, a front office Debt Capital Markets (DCM) book building application. This role focuses on developing and enhancing a key platform used during live transactions, working directly with global Debt Capital Markets teams. You’ll contribute within Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) Technology, delivering technology solutions and support across an estate of around 40 applications plus several third-party systems. Success means shipping well-tested features that meet functional and data requirements, improving user interface consistency and performance and providing reliable support when it matters most. You’ll help shape reusable user interface patterns and strengthen engineering practices through reviews, pairing and knowledge transfer across locations including China, Pune, London, and Canada.

What you'll be doing

- Build reusable component libraries and user interface patterns for the Primary+ application
- Implement responsive and accessible Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) interfaces
- Optimize performance across rendering, bundle size and caching and enforce performance budgets
- Create high-quality unit, integration and end-to-end tests and maintain continuous integration (CI) pipelines
- Conduct code reviews, pair programming and mentoring to strengthen engineering quality
- Partner with product, backend and quality assurance (QA) to shape features and releases
- Implement functional and data requirements with Debt Capital Markets stakeholders and the Technical Lead across global sites
- Provide documentation, knowledge transfer and time-critical third line support during live transactions and releases including occasional weekend support

What we're looking for

- Bring hands-on experience across front end development through back-end database design
- Demonstrate experience across the software development life cycle with formal release procedures and source control
- Apply strong knowledge of web application architecture and design patterns including single page application architecture
- Build modern front ends using React, Redux Toolkit, ECMAScript 6 (ES6), TypeScript, and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
- Use GitHub or an equivalent source code repository tool effectively
- Create and tune complex Structured Query Language (SQL) queries and apply practical SQL performance tuning
- Apply Test Driven Development and Behavior Driven Development practices in day-to-day delivery
- Build or support micro services using frameworks such as Vert.x

Building Primary+ for Debt Capital Markets

This is a chance to deliver front office capabilities that support global Debt Capital Markets teams when timelines are tight and outcomes matter. You’ll work across regions, partner closely with technology and business stakeholders and ship improvements that are reused across the wider user interface estate. If you want your work to be visible in live transactions and you care about engineering quality from accessibility to testing to performance, this role offers real scope to make an impact. Apply to help evolve Primary+ and strengthen the Capital Markets and Advisory Technology platform behind it.
