The Senior Network Engineer designs, analyzes, plans and modifies network components supporting customer communication implementation activities. The Senior Network Engineer work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for developing and evaluating remote site solutions throughout Humana and its subsidiaries. This role prepares analyses of short-term and long-term capacity requirements for switching, routing, transmission, and signaling. It involves conducting SDWAN network design and testing, as well as feasibility and cost studies. The engineer develops standard solutions and establishes the required sequence of network activities. Site growth and expansion evaluations are conducted to determine the impact on remote services. The Senior Network Engineer actively participates in departmental strategy and makes decisions on moderately complex to highly complex technical issues related to project components. Work is performed independently, with considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. The position requires participation in on-call and implementation duties during nights and weekends, as needed. Humana seeks a Senior Network Engineer who will deliver solutions for multi-platform network connectivity. This critical role within Humana's IT organization encompasses engineering and design, planning, implementation, and the establishment of operational and maintenance programs to deliver best-in-class, next-generation SDWAN and remote site infrastructure. Responsibilities include optimizing all aspects of the remote network ecosystem, such as performance, resiliency, availability, resource utilization, and innovation. Additionally, this position provides cloud network design, engineering, and administrative support for both physical and virtual networking devices within multi-platform environments. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for leveraging highly available networking technologies in a heterogeneous environment.

Required Qualifications

- BS/BA, preferably in a technical or scientific field or in lieu of BS/BA, 4+ years industry experience + industry certifications
- 4+ years of experience working with SDWAN architecture network designs, implementations, and support
- Network engineering certification such as CCNP/CCIE, Fortinet NSE, AASX or equivalent
- 4+ years of technical network engineering experience, and 3+ years of project leadership experience
- 4+ years of Layer 2/ Layer 3 network architectural design (WAN/Cloud/Data Center) and engineering experience
- 4+ years of experience working with BGP and other WAN technologies
- Strong experience supporting large-scale environments and remote sites
- Experience with Cisco networking equipment
- Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls
- Experience in SDWAN overlay technologies
- Knowledge of QoS and network security functions (firewalls, VPN, IPS, etc)
- Ability to manage complex multi-organizational projects
- Experience with implementing and operating software-defined network environments (Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, Meraki etc.)
- Vendor management skills (hardware/software security vendors as well as third party vendors)
- Experience working with Data Center Colocation facilities and virtual network fabric provided by vendors such as Equinix and Mega-Port.
- Pass eQIP certification background check

Preferred Qualifications

- Programming/scripting languages and frameworks knowledge and experience, in support of automation (Python, Ansible, etc.)
- Experience with AGILE methodology & ITSM processes
- Practical experience leveraging AI tools in a network engineering context, such as:Claude, Gemini, GitHub Copilot (or similar tools) for design assistance, documentation generation, troubleshooting guides, and code review of network automation scripts.
- Experience with agentic AI and automation patterns, including:Designing and working with AI agents, orchestration frameworks, or MCP-style gateways to interact with network APIs, monitoring platforms, and ticketing systems.Building or maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for network configurations (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).Integrating network automation and validation into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) for configuration testing, compliance checks, and staged rollouts.
- Familiarity with zero-trust networking concepts, segmentation, and integration with firewalls and security services (Zscaler ZIA, ZPA).
- Experience in hybrid cloud connectivity (AWS/Azure/GCP) and integrating SD-WAN with cloud on-ramps.
- Background in strict change control operations and change management processes.

Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
$97,900 - $133,500 per year
This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
