About the Position

Our client is seeking a Director of Operations to oversee project execution, lead field and project management teams, and drive operational consistency across its portfolio of federal construction projects.

This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining strong client relationships and protecting profitability. The ideal candidate combines hands-on construction expertise with financial acumen, strategic thinking, and a proven ability to lead Project Managers and Superintendents across multiple concurrent projects.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead, mentor, and hold Project Managers and Superintendents accountable for project performance, execution, and professional development.

- Oversee project safety, quality, scheduling, staffing, productivity, client satisfaction, and closeout.

- Identify operational risks, resolve project challenges, and implement corrective actions and recovery plans.

- Manage resource allocation, including staffing, superintendent assignments, manpower planning, project priorities, and scheduling.

- Review project forecasts, job costs, cost-to-complete projections, change exposure, and margin risks to support profitability.

- Develop and standardize operating procedures, project controls, documentation, scheduling practices, and communication between field and office teams.

- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

- Partner with executive leadership on operational strategy, staffing decisions, performance management, and key client relationships.

- Drive continuous improvement in project delivery, team development, and company-wide operational standards.

Requirements

- 10–15 years of progressive construction experience, including senior leadership responsibility for teams, projects, and multiple concurrent priorities.

- 5–10 years of experience in Project Management, Superintendent or General Superintendent leadership, or a comparable construction operations role.

- Federal government construction experience strongly preferred.

- Experience with projects ranging from $1 million to $20 million preferred.

- Strong financial management skills, including project forecasting, job-cost analysis, cost-to-complete projections, budgeting, and margin management.

- Comprehensive knowledge of construction means and methods, sequencing, subcontractor coordination, safety, quality control, scheduling, and project management processes.

- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, RFIs, submittals, and project schedules.

- Excellent leadership, communication, strategic planning, relationship management, and problem-solving skills.

- Strong technology proficiency; Procore experience strongly preferred.

- Ability to travel regularly to active project sites throughout the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast.

- Ability to obtain and maintain required federal facility access credentials.

- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred, but not required.

- Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), prevailing-wage requirements, design-build delivery, and other federal construction requirements.

- Experience with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and Foundation or comparable construction accounting software.

- OSHA 30, Construction Quality Management (CQM), or other relevant construction leadership and safety credentials.
