About this role

We are seeking Transmission Line Engineers to support the engineering and design of overhead high-voltage transmission lines.

The Transmission Line Engineer is responsible for transmission line routing, structure design and evaluation, conductor and shield-wire selection, clearances, loading analysis, foundation coordination, and development of engineering drawings and calculations in accordance with client standards and applicable industry requirements.

This position coordinates closely with Substation, Civil, project management, environmental/permitting, survey, and other engineering disciplines throughout project execution.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Core Responsibilities:

- Perform engineering and design for new transmission lines, rebuilds, reconductoring projects, structure replacements, and line modifications.

- Develop transmission line alignments, plan-and-profile drawings, structure spotting, structure lists, and construction documentation.

- Perform conductor sag-tension, clearance, loading, and structural analyses.

- Develop and evaluate transmission structure configurations including poles, lattice structures, and associated components.

- Perform engineering using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, TOWER, or similar transmission-line design software.

- Develop material specifications, bills of material, construction specifications, and other project deliverables.

- Coordinate geotechnical, foundation, survey, right-of-way, permitting, and environmental information required for design.

- Coordinate transmission-line interfaces with substations and other project disciplines.

- Review field information, existing records, LiDAR, survey data, and as-built information.

- Participate in design reviews and QA/QC processes.

- Support project scoping, estimating, scheduling, and technical coordination as required.

- Conduct field/site visits when necessary to verify existing conditions and gather design information.

- Provide engineering support during construction, including responses to technical questions and design clarifications.

- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Experience requirements vary by level; entry-level through experienced candidates will be considered.

- Experience with electric utility transmission-line engineering preferred.

- Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, TOWER, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar engineering software preferred.

- Familiarity with NESC requirements and utility transmission-line design standards preferred.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

- FE/EIT certification preferred; PE licensure preferred for senior-level candidates.

Education and General Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another engineering discipline relevant to transmission-line design from an accredited four-year institution.

- Valid Driver’s License.

- Eligibility to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements:

- Prolonged sitting and standing are required.

- Ability to occasionally lift, pull, carry, and push items weighing up to 50 pounds.

- Ability to always handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner.

- Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and Company needs.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

- Works in a routine office environment; occasional field/site visits required

- Ability to work extended hours, as needed

- Travel will be required as needed to support field/site visits and project coordination
