About this role

Freese and Nichols is looking for an Environmental Scientist – Geoscience and Water Quality to join our Environmental team in Oklahoma City or Tulsa, Oklahoma . selected candidate will work closely with professionals in engineering, water quality, hydrology, stormwater planning, compliance monitoring, and geosciences to successfully deliver projects to FNI clients in our Central Plains Division. Candidates will have the opportunity to work on projects for federal, state, and local government clients as well as private sector clients throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

What You’ll Do

- Manage small to medium environmental projects and support larger projects, coordinating technical tasks, schedules, budgets, project teams and deliverables
- Apply your expertise in one or more of the following areas: Water Quality Services : Environmental water quality and stormwater compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations, including municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4), construction and industrial programs
- Geoscience Services : Environmental site assessments, subsurface investigations and risk-based environmental cleanups

- Conduct environmental studies, collect and analyze field data, interpret findings and prepare clear, well-organized technical reports, regulatory documentation and recommendations
- Evaluate surface water quality standards, Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), water quality monitoring data and best management practices (BMPs) to support environmental planning and regulatory compliance
- Coordinate field investigations, sampling activities, subcontractors and regulatory agency communications, applying sound technical judgment and reviewing work for quality and consistency
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients and stakeholders, demonstrating responsiveness, strong communication skills and a commitment to shared project goals
- Prepare scopes of work, fee estimates, proposals and statements of qualifications while identifying opportunities to improve environmental processes and project delivery

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, geology, urban planning, GIS, archaeology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4+ years of relevant environmental experience
- Experience conducting environmental investigations, analyzing technical data and preparing environmental reports or regulatory documentation
- Proficiency with field data collection and mapping equipment, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology
- Ability to communicate technical findings through written reports, presentations and client meetings; travel to project sites as needed and perform fieldwork that may involve inclement weather, strenuous conditions and lifting more than 50 pounds

Preferred

- Master's degree in environmental science, geology, biology or a related field
- Professional certification or licensure in a relevant environmental or geoscience discipline
- Experience with Clean Water Act regulatory programs, NPDES permitting, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements, MS4 program administration, SWPPP development and compliance reporting
- Experience with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, EPA Brownfields projects, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality risk-based corrective action requirements or Oklahoma Corporation Commission petroleum storage tank regulations
- Experience conducting water quality and sediment sampling, biological monitoring, site inspections, soil boring and monitoring well investigations, or identifying appropriate BMPs and corrective actions
