National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is the oldest Jewish feminist civil rights organization working for equity and justice for women, children, and families in the United States and Israel. Representing more than 250,000 grassroots advocates, we combine education, direct service, and advocacy to create lasting social change.
We approach our work through a Jewish, gender, economic, and racial justice lens, centering those most impacted. Our deep partnerships across progressive, faith-based, and governmental spaces reflect our intersectional values.
NCJW is at a transformational moment, guided by a bold new strategic plan. Our audacious goal: engage one million changemakers nationwide to improve the lives of women, children, and families. To reach that goal, NCJW is making important adjustments to its structure, strategy and staffing. This role is a part of that vision.
Position summary:
NCJW seeks a social media coordinator to help make our social channels feel unmistakably NCJW: smart, timely, Jewish, feminist, engaging, and deeply connected to the conversations shaping our world.
This is the person who lives and breathes NCJW social media. The social media coordinator will help manage NCJW’s day-to-day social presence, creating timely, compelling content that brings our advocacy, people, values, and impact to life. They will understand the rhythms and personality of each platform and know how to turn serious issues into content people actually want to watch, share, discuss, and act on.
The role is about more than posting. The social media coordinator will help make NCJW an active participant in the online communities and movements where we belong — engaging followers, partners, Jewish communal voices, creators, influencers, journalists, and others; spotting conversations NCJW should join; and helping our channels feel responsive, human, and alive.
The social media coordinator will also be a content creator in their own right, producing social-first video, interviewing colleagues and advocates, capturing moments in real time, experimenting with new formats and trends, and occasionally appearing on camera as an NCJW voice.
The ideal candidate is creative, curious, culturally fluent, and extremely online — in the best possible way. They are an excellent writer with strong editorial judgment, a good instinct for what will resonate, and an ability to move quickly without losing accuracy, nuance, or NCJW’s distinctive voice.
The social media coordinator reports to the Director of Digital Strategy. This position is based in Washington, DC, with in-office expectations of at least one day per week, and additional time in person at events as required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Shape NCJW’s social presence
- Manage NCJW’s social media calendar across platforms, balancing advocacy, organizational storytelling, Jewish life and values, new trends, timely cultural moments, and audience engagement.
- Run the day-to-day operation of NCJW’s social channels, from concept and copywriting through publishing, monitoring, and optimization.
- Work closely with the Director of Digital Strategy to implement and continually strengthen NCJW’s social media strategy, voice, audience growth, and engagement.
- Translate complex policy, advocacy, and organizational priorities into clear, compelling, social-first content designed for how people actually consume information online.
- Spot the moments when NCJW should jump into the conversation — from breaking news and Jewish communal moments to cultural conversations and emerging social trends.
- Exercise strong editorial judgment about when and how NCJW should enter conversations, balancing speed, creativity, accuracy, organizational voice, and strategic priorities.
- Maintain a consistent and recognizable NCJW voice while adapting content appropriately for different platforms and audiences.
Create compelling, social-first content
- Create social-first content that feels native to the platform — including graphics, carousels, photography, live content, short-form video, and whatever format comes next.
- Appear on camera as an NCJW ambassador and help develop approachable, personality-driven content that makes the organization and its work accessible to new audiences.
- Write sharp, engaging social copy that makes complex issues understandable without sacrificing nuance or NCJW’s distinctive Jewish feminist perspective.
- Work with colleagues across the Communications team to turn organizational priorities, media moments, field stories, events, and campaigns into compelling social content.
Build and engage NCJW’s online community
- Serve as the day-to-day community coordinator for NCJW’s national social channels, monitoring and responding to comments, messages, mentions, and conversations.
- Build relationships with NCJW’s online audiences through active, thoughtful engagement that makes our channels feel responsive, human, and connected.
- Proactively engage with content from partner organizations, Jewish communal voices, movement allies, influencers, creators, journalists, and other relevant accounts to increase NCJW’s visibility and deepen relationships.
- Identify influencers, creators, and other digital voices who can help NCJW reach new audiences and develop opportunities for organic collaboration and amplification.
- Develop and maintain community management practices that allow NCJW to foster meaningful conversation while responding appropriately to harassment, antisemitism, misinformation, and other harmful content.
