Job Overview

Under general direction of the Communications Manager, this position assists in the development of communications strategies and leads the execution of projects that assist the Airport in achieving its key results related to external communications, media relations and crisis communications.  In the Airport’s 24x7 environment, works collaboratively with other departments to identify opportunities for promoting the DFW brand and maintaining and protecting its reputation among employees, customers and stakeholders.

What you will be doing:

- Develops communications strategies to achieve the Airport’s key results.
- Identifies opportunities to promote DFW’s brand and reputation in collaboration with other departments.
- Leads and manages projects and tasks to achieve communications across owned, earned and paid channels.
- Drafts, edits and distributes content for owned, earned and paid channels, integrating communications resources to drive results.
- Measures and analyzes results to determine efficacy or communications plans and to refine tactics or strategies.
- Directs external partners in planning and executing integrated campaigns including internal and external communications, social media, video, events, and executive presentations.
- Takes an active leadership role in the Airport’s crisis and reputation management response plans, developing and distributing messaging and content to appropriated audiences in a coordinated manner.
- Demonstrates and maintains business acumen in identifying challenges and opportunities, consulting with airport leaders and client departments in an on-going and proactive manner.
- Serves as team leader on assigned projects; provides required instruction to assigned team members.  Reviews work products prepared by assigned team members to ensure quality, completeness, technical soundness of findings, and adherence to Department of policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties and projects as requested to further the Airport’s key results.

What you need:

- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, journalism, or related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in communications/public relations environment.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Availability to respond to media and crisis inquiries within the Airport’s 24x7 environment.
- Superior interpersonal skills to diplomatically interface with international internal and external partners, and maintain effective working relationship at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated proficiency in the principles and practices of journalism, media relations, and/or public relations.
- Demonstrates strong ability to manage and direct projects from inception to completion.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective business communication, including writing and editing, creating/giving presentations.
- Skill in using variety of communication tools, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven judgment and media savvy.
- Strong attention to detail, and ability to produce work requiring minimal effort and oversight.

Special Requirements:

- Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.

Desired:

- Previous experience in external or crisis communications.
- Experience in airport, airline or other highly matrixed and safety-oriented industries.
