Welder/Fabricator ( Onsite – Marysville, WA )
A bout Gravitics
At Gravitics , we're not exploring space— we're building it. We're creating the infrastructure for a thriving space economy, enabling humanity to flourish beyond Earth. Our vision is bold, but we're not just dreamers; we're doers. We design and manufacture large-scale orbital structures that enable commercial operations while meeting the requirements of defense and government missions.
Our systems are built to scale and built to last—bridging commercial innovation with mission-critical performance. If you're ready to lay the foundations for a new era in space, embrace a culture of relentless learning and innovation, and contribute to a future where humanity's reach extends farther, Gravitics is the place for you. Let's build the future together.
About the Role
We're looking for a highly skilled welder/fabricator to build primary structure for human-rated spaceflight hardware. You'll be hands-on with precision aluminum and steel welding, forming, fitting, and automated/robotic welding systems — fabricating mission-critical structures, inspecting weld quality, and solving fabrication challenges alongside engineering. Beyond welding, you'll also help assemble large space-rated metallic structures , own key shop processes, and contribute to building out our next-generation manufacturing center.
Responsibilities
- Weld primary structure for human-rated space hardware; perform Class A quality aluminum and steel welds
- Fit, form, clean parts, and set up welding equipment for production; fabricate tooling to support production
- Cut, form, and weld from engineering drawings and technical instructions
- Inspect fabricated parts for geometry acceptance and weld conformance; diagnose defects and recommend corrective actions
- Operate manufacturing equipment (CNC mills, water jets, bandsaws) and precision tools (torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers)
- Operate cranes, forklifts, and other heavy equipment as needed
- Work with X-ray technicians and support other NDT processes
- Collaborate with engineering on tooling improvements, build issues, and design feedback; coordinate with quality and manufacturing leadership so shop-floor constraints inform design earlier
- Set and uphold a high bar for first-article quality and process discipline; diagnose and troubleshoot difficult fabrication/process problems
- Own equipment configuration and capacity for your work area; forecast bottlenecks and remove blockers
- Implement machine maintenance schedules and manage spares so equipment stays up and running
- Ensure shop processes have accessible, correct documentation; help transfer proven processes into standard production
- Support vendor fabrication/machining when it unblocks development or a process transfer
- Think creatively and question the status quo while still following documentation and prescribed quality standards
- Build and maintain a clean, safe, organized work area and follow OSHA safety standards
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of Class A TIG welding experience (or equivalent from another industry), plus 5+ years of fabrication/forming experience
- Hands-on welding experience with MIG/TIG/Laser systems for steel and aluminum
- Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints/technical drawings
- Familiarity with NDT processes (X-ray, Eddy Current, Ultrasound, or similar)
- Automated or robotic welding experience
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; sit/stand for extended periods
- Willingness to work evenings/weekends to support critical milestones; travel up to 25%
Bonus Points for
- 5+ years of Class A D17.1 aerospace welding experience
- Experience leading or coaching a team
- Experience in safety-critical, traceability-critical, or cleanroom environments
- A&P license or experience on large engineered assemblies in a military context
- Strong self-starter, comfortable in a fast-paced fabrication environment
Compensation and Benefits
Your level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the considerations of job-related knowledge and skills, education, and direct experience. Salary is just one component of the total employee package, which also includes company equity at an exciting time of company growth, as well as comprehensive medical, 401(k) retirement plan, a generous PTO policy, employee discounts, and more.
