Position Summary

The ITCD Specialist provides integrated, evidence-based therapy and clinical services to adults experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide individual therapy for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders using evidence-based approaches, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and relapse-prevention strategies; provide community-based therapy when clinically appropriate and within professional scope.

- Plan and facilitate co-occurring disorder counseling and educational groups at Beacon and in community settings, adapting content to participants’ needs, readiness for change, and recovery goals.

- Complete integrated assessments that identify mental health and substance use symptoms, strengths, risks, functional needs, readiness for change, and appropriate treatment recommendations.

- Collaborate with individuals and the integrated treatment team to develop, review, and update person-centered, recovery-oriented, stage-based treatment plans that address both mental health and substance use needs.

- Coordinate with the Manager of Substance Use Services and Director of Medical Services/Chief Nursing Officer to support fidelity to the ITCD model, identify service gaps, and participate in quality-improvement activities.

- Meet established billable-service and productivity expectations and complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other clinical records accurately and within required timeframes in the electronic health record.

- Participate in weekly integrated treatment and assessment-team meetings; provide clinical consultation, education, case coordination, and recommendations that promote continuity of care.

- Orient new integrated treatment team employees to the ITCD model, program workflows, team roles, and fidelity expectations.

- Maintain relationships with community mutual-aid, self-help, and recovery-support groups; provide informed referrals and support participation based on each individual’s preferences and clinical needs.

- Coordinate or provide family psychoeducation and support groups when clinically appropriate and authorized, while protecting confidentiality and honoring individual choice.

- Monitor emerging practices in co-occurring disorder treatment and develop or deliver relevant training, presentations, and educational resources for employees and community partners.

- Maintain required credentials and training, use agency technology proficiently, travel as needed, and perform other related duties.

Expectations and Success Measures

- Services are integrated, person-centered, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, stage-matched, evidence-based, and delivered within professional scope and applicable ethical standards.

- Integrated assessments and treatment plans accurately address both mental health and substance use conditions, including strengths, risks, functional needs, readiness for change, goals, interventions, and measurable progress.

- Individual, group, community-based, and family-focused services are clinically appropriate, well organized, engaging, coordinated with the treatment team, and responsive to individual preferences and needs.

- Clinical documentation is complete, accurate, confidential, and timely; records support continuity of care, service authorization, billing, and compliance with Beacon, payer, Missouri Department of Mental Health, and professional requirements.

- Established billable-service and productivity expectations are met consistently, barriers are communicated promptly, and assigned work is prioritized and completed reliably.

- Weekly team participation, consultation, employee orientation, training, and community education strengthen integrated care, team capability, and continuity of services.

- ITCD fidelity and quality-improvement activities are completed collaboratively with program leadership, and identified gaps are addressed through timely corrective action and follow-through.

- Maintain a master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related behavioral-health field; a Missouri clinical licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or licensed psychologist are preferred. Maintain an active Missouri-recognized Qualified Addiction Professional credential, or other credential currently approved by the Missouri Division of Behavioral Health and Beacon for the assigned functions, plus current CPR and First Aid certification.

- Maintain at least three years of related behavioral-health experience; five or more years of experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use treatment is preferred. Demonstrate working knowledge of behavioral-health best practices, crisis response, healthcare technology, electronic health records, and Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Maintain a valid driver’s license, state-required automobile insurance, and ability to complete local and occasional statewide or national travel.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This office-, clinic-, and community-based position requires regular verbal communication, computer and mobile-device use, and local travel, with occasional statewide or national travel for training, seminars, or presentations. The employee frequently uses hands and fingers and occasionally stands, walks, sits, reaches, and lifts or moves up to 50 pounds. Close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus may be needed. Work settings generally have low-to-moderate noise and may include varied community environments.
