About Living Goods:
Community health is one of the most proven ways to save lives. But as community health systems scale, many struggle to maintain quality, control costs, and deliver consistent results. Scale without performance puts lives at risk.

Living Goods is a government performance partner that supports countries in Africa to build affordable, intelligent, high-impact community health systems. For almost 20 years, we have worked alongside the governments of Kenya, Uganda, and Burkina Faso to make community health work at scale. Our work focuses on aligning policies, financing, technology, and workforce to turn government investment into consistent, reliable, quality care for families. Our approach is research-proven, built for real-world constraints, and delivers life-saving care for about $2 per person served.

As global health funding tightens and expectations for measurable results grow, governments need systems they can afford, sustain, and manage for results. Our 2027–2030 strategy is built for this moment. It focuses on strengthening the operating foundations of government-led systems, scaling proven solutions, and developing new approaches to emerging challenges, including intelligent systems that use data and AI to better support government community health workers (CHWs) and the systems around them.

Our vision is simple: when families need healthcare, it’s there. Not eventually. Not only when a program reaches them. But reliably—through systems designed to work, improve, and endure.

The Opportunity:
Living Goods is seeking a Manager, Business Development to build the philanthropic partnerships in the U.S. market that make our 2027–2030 strategy possible. You will identify, cultivate, secure, and steward multi-year investments from US-based foundations and corporate funders, with a focus on larger and technically complex opportunities. You will keep funders engaged and invested over time, building the relationships and results reporting that drive renewals and increased giving.

This is a role for an experienced fundraiser who is ready to carry a meaningful share of our revenue target and to step into senior funder conversations. You will own your portfolio of relationships, lead the proposals behind them, and sharpen how we tell the Living Goods performance story to U.S. funders.

You will report to the Deputy Director, Foundations and Corporates, and work closely with colleagues across Business Development, Programs, Innovations, Digital Health, Finance, Advocacy, and Communications in East and West Africa, the U.S., and Europe.

You will thrive in this role if...

- You build enduring relationships .
You are comfortable leading a funder meeting, not just supporting one. You can find the overlap between a funder's priorities and ours, adjust your message for each audience, and keep a relationship warm through the long stretches of a 12-to-24-month cultivation cycle.
- You can go deep when the conversation gets technical.
A program officer at a large funder will ask about unit economics, scale pathways, government integration, and evidence. You can give a substantive answer, and you know when and how to bring in technical colleagues from other departments when needed to go deeper.

- You run complex proposals with accuracy and confidence.
You manage up, down, and across the organization to coordinate winning proposals. You anticipate the next step, get the inputs you need from Finance, Programs, and Compliance, make judgement calls on what goes in, and push back-on colleagues when the proposal needs it.
- You are agile.
You can pitch a plan that is still taking shape, and you don't need perfectly settled materials to move a relationship forward. You are resourceful, rigorous about priorities, and calm under tight external deadlines. You seek feedback and use it and are excited to build a career in an organization that is changing quickly .

Responsibilities:
Relationship ownership and revenue
- Own a portfolio of existing and prospective U.S. foundation and corporate donors. This is an externally facing role with direct revenue responsibility toward the team's annual funding target.

- Build and carry out engagement strategies to retain donors and secure new and increased funding, including larger, multi-year, restricted awards.

- Represent Living Goods in conversations with funders, including technical discussions on our approach, evidence base, unit economics, and path to scale.

- Position Living Goods to win funding from large, technically complex foundations, corporate funders, funder collaboratives and pooled mechanisms by building relationships with funders, shaping our case for support, and pursuing opportunities as they open.

- Support the CEO and other leaders in funder engagements, making sure leadership is well-prepared for every funder interaction.

Proposal Leadership
- Lead and project manage concept notes and full proposals, coordinating technical input from Programs and Digital Health, budgets with Finance, compliance review, and leadership engagement.

- Guide donor due diligence and the negotiation of restricted terms and reporting requirements, working with Finance and Compliance.

- Facilitate strategic decisions on which funding and partnership opportunities to pursue and what the most compelling pitch for Living Goods would be, aligned with funder interests.

- Support opportunities to bid with partners, such as implementers and technology providers, where a joint approach strengthens our competitiveness.
Pipeline, reporting, and strategy
- Monitor opportunities and contribute to pipeline forecasting and donor surveillance across the U.S. market.

- Advise on grant reporting for your portfolio, sharing what each funder cares about and how they like to receive results, so reports are tailored to the donor.

- Work with the grant writer and Communications team to create and update funder communications and collateral that reflect Living Goods' messaging.

- Contribute to U.S.-market strategy, including how the team positions our 2027–2030 strategy to funders and test new fundraising approaches and partnership models .

Qualifications and Experience:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

- 5 - 7 years of experience in fundraising or business development, including at least 2–3 years at manager level or in a role with comparable portfolio ownership.

- Personal ownership of significant ($1M+) awards, from cultivation through signed agreement and into future renewals. We are looking for relationship ownership, not only contribution to a team effort.

- Direct experience with institutional funder processes, including introductory meetings, pitch/co-creation discussions, concept notes, full proposals, due diligence, and negotiation of grant terms and requirements.

- Demonstrated experience leading multi-stakeholder proposal development across program, finance, and compliance functions, producing high-quality work under tight deadlines.

- Experience in global health, international development, or an adjacent technical field sufficient to hold substantive conversations with donors.

- Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to develop clear and convincing materials that are attentive to nuance and audience.

- Experience with budgeting and financial reporting.

- Collaborative spirit, demonstrated by active listening, clear communication, being a team player, and earning trust across departments, with executive team members, country teams, and peers.

- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, likely 2-3 times per year.

Preferred
- Existing relationships or credible networks among large U.S. global health foundations and corporate philanthropy, including technology and pharmaceutical companies.

- Technical fluency in global health, digital health, or health systems, enough to engage credibly on program design.

- Experience with funder collaboratives or pooled funds.

Compensation
A competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience including health insurance and annual performance bonus pay opportunity.  This is an opportunity to be your best while making lives better for those in need!
