Sr. Accountant

Long term | Great Culture Job Description The Sr. Accountant manages and oversees key accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records while supporting month-end and year-end close processes. This role partners closely with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and other departments to analyze financial information, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with accounting principles and company policies. The Sr. Accountant also contributes to financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, audits, internal controls, and process improvements, while serving as a resource to accounting staff and business partners and playing an integral role in the modernization of the ERP system. Responsibilities

- Manage general ledger activity, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and maintenance of accurate and complete financial records.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
- Prepare, review, and support financial reporting, including internal management reports and external reporting as needed.
- Coordinate and complete sales tax filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable processes to maintain accurate account balances and timely processing of transactions.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in AR/AP and other account balances by collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners as needed.
- Support inventory and cost accounting activities, including variance analysis and cost management to ensure accurate product and inventory costing.
- Maintain and update fixed asset records, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and related reconciliations.
- Partner with operations and other business functions to ensure financial data accurately reflects operational activities and inventory levels.
- Provide financial analysis and management reporting to support business decision-making, including budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Offer accounting guidance and support to business leaders and cross-functional partners to help interpret financial results and drive performance.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Maintain organized accounting records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Strengthen and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and improve the reliability of financial reporting.
- Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to accounting processes and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Document accounting policies, procedures, and workflows to support consistency, training, and control effectiveness.
- Support ERP system enhancements and participate in projects related to system modernization and optimization.
- Identify and pursue automation opportunities within accounting processes to reduce manual work and improve data quality.
- Collaborate with team members, including the controller and AP/AR associate, to support day-to-day accounting operations and broader business initiatives.
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support business operations and the evolving needs of the accounting function.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
- Strong reconciliation skills with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and support decision-making.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
- Experience working with an ERP or accounting system, with the ability to navigate and use system functionality effectively.
- Knowledge of GAAP and the ability to apply accounting principles in day-to-day work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with Acumatica ERP is highly preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment is preferred.
- Experience with inventory and cost accounting, including variance analysis and cost management.
- Experience with financial reporting and financial analysis to support management and operational decisions.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
- Experience leading accounting projects or process improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with cost management concepts and practices.
- Experience using payroll or HR-related systems such as Paylocity is beneficial.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Brighton, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $43.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be
