About this role
The Investment Lead Analyst is responsible for delivering high-quality credit analysis, developing well-supported investment recommendations, and actively monitoring public and private bond investments. The role applies strong sector knowledge, disciplined underwriting, sound independent judgment, and effective collaboration to support CIM’s investment objectives and long-term financial commitments.
The Lead Analyst manages assigned coverage and takes meaningful ownership of recommendations and contributes to sector and portfolio discussions. This role influences portfolio construction, credit selection, sector strategy, and team effectiveness while serving as an analytical resource across the investment team.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Selection & Credit Analysis
- Develop high-quality buy, hold, sell, or avoid recommendations supported by disciplined credit analysis, sound judgment, and a clear investment rationale.
- Assess credit risk within assigned industries and sectors, incorporating relevant market, economic, and global considerations.
- Evaluate relative value opportunities and determine whether pricing appropriately reflects credit risk.
- Proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities within assigned coverage and assess potential portfolio implications.
- Use internal expertise, external research, analytical tools, data, and market resources to support recommendations.
- Document analysis thoroughly, defend conclusions, and contribute actively to investment review and challenge processes.
Public and Private Bond Underwriting
- Underwrite public and private credit opportunities using analysis of business models, industry dynamics, financial performance, capital structure, security terms, covenants, and key risk drivers.
- Develop clear views on credit quality, valuation, and relative value in standalone and portfolio contexts.
- Manage routine underwriting assignments with limited direction and engage senior investment professionals on complex, uncertain, or material matters.
- Contribute to disciplined risk selection and CIM’s objective of achieving attractive risk-adjusted returns.
Portfolio Management
- Actively monitor assigned holdings and contribute to sector reviews, risk discussions, and portfolio strategy conversations.
- Identify and recommend potential additions, reductions, sales, amendments, restructurings, or other actions to protect or enhance portfolio value.
- Support credit events through analysis, coordination, and recommendations, escalating higher-risk or more complex situations appropriately.
- Provide recommendations that reflect an understanding of CIM’s investment objectives, liquidity considerations, and portfolio construction priorities.
- Price assigned portfolio positions accurately based on credit fundamentals, market conditions, and available information.
Collaboration & Organizational Contribution
- Share relevant market, sector, and issuer insights with colleagues across the investment platform.
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with analysts, traders, portfolio managers, and senior investment leaders.
- Contribute to team projects, process improvements, and CIM-wide or Cigna-wide initiatives as appropriate.
- Support onboarding and integration of new team members by sharing relevant institutional knowledge and investment-process expertise.
- Provide regular constructive feedback to less experienced analysts and interns, while formal performance management remains with designated managers.
Qualifications
- Relevant experience in investment management, fixed income, credit analysis, investment research, portfolio management, underwriting, or related discipline.
- Experience evaluating securities across public or private bond markets and developing investment recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate moderately complex debt investments using independent judgment, established analytical frameworks, and appropriate escalation.
- Strong understanding of credit fundamentals, financial statement analysis, industry dynamics, valuation, capital structure, and risk assessment.
- Working knowledge of relative value analysis within and across sectors.
- Experience participating in portfolio reviews, risk discussions, amendments, restructurings, or other credit events.
- Familiarity with investment platforms, market data tools, external research providers, and portfolio-monitoring resources.
- Ability to develop and defend well-supported investment recommendations and communicate credit views clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage assigned coverage with limited oversight while appropriately engaging senior leaders on complex or material decisions.
This position supports Cigna Investments, Inc., an investment adviser registered with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”). The successful candidate will become an Access Person of CII required to comply with the personal trading requirements and restrictions contained in CII’s Code of Ethics. These requirements and restrictions apply to the Access Person and all securities transactions in accounts in which an Access Person has a Beneficial Interest.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 89,400 - 149,000 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
