role

About the role

- The Sr. Structural Engineer is a technical individual contributor within the Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) Engineering discipline in Design & Engineering (D&E) at Prime Data Centers. This role owns structural engineering scope across PDC's hyperscale and purpose-built data center projects — from concept through construction support — ensuring buildings, foundations, and heavy equipment support structures are safe, code-compliant, buildable, and cost-effective at hyperscale.
- This is a hands-on technical role, not a people-management position. It exists because structural decisions on hyperscale campuses carry outsized cost, schedule, and risk exposure — heavy MEP equipment loading, seismic and wind design across varied markets, and foundation design for equipment most commercial structural engineers rarely encounter.

Role Mission

- Ensure PDC's data centers stand on structurally sound, code-compliant, cost-effective foundations and building structures — from design through construction — so schedule and budget commitments hold.

Scope & Accountability

- Owns structural engineering scope end-to-end for assigned projects: building structure, foundations, and equipment support structures (generators, CRAHs/CRACs, chillers, switchgear, MV/electrical equipment, rooftop- and yard-mounted mechanical/electrical equipment)
- Serves as PDC's technical authority for structural design on assigned projects
- Accountable for structural code compliance (IBC, ASCE 7, and local amendments), constructability, and delivery impact
- Reviews and validates third-party structural consultant and contractor deliverables
- Influences structural standards and design patterns across projects and campuses

What you'll do

TECHNICAL EXECUTION & OWNERSHIP

- Lead structural design and review for building structures, foundations, and equipment support structures across hyperscale and purpose-built projects

- Resolve technically ambiguous structural problems: heavy equipment loading, seismic/wind design across jurisdictions, soil- and geotech-driven foundation design

- Balance speed, risk, cost, and quality in structural decisions; flag when a design choice trades one for another

- Review vendor and manufacturer equipment submittals for structural compatibility; coordinate load data with Design, MEP, and Civil

STANDARDS & TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE

- Define, apply, and evolve PDC's structural design standards and equipment support details for repeatable campus deployment

- Identify opportunities for prefabrication, modularization, and standardized foundation/support details that reduce engineering effort and rework across projects

- Reduce technical debt and late-stage structural surprises through sound engineering judgment early in design

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION

- Partner with Design, Civil, Architecture, MEP Engineering, Construction, and Operations on structural coordination

- Support site selection and due diligence with structural and geotechnical risk assessment for candidate sites

- Communicate structural tradeoffs clearly to non-technical stakeholders — schedule, cost, and risk implications, not just code citations

- Support third-party structural consultant management: scoping, review, and quality control of deliverables

Qualifications

- 8+ years of structural engineering experience, including mission-critical, industrial, or heavy-equipment facility design
- PE license (or ability to obtain multi-state licensure) strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, and structural code compliance across multiple U.S. jurisdictions
- Experience with foundation design for heavy/vibrating equipment and seismic/wind design across varied markets
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction; strong written and verbal communication skills
- Have deep structural engineering experience in data centers, industrial, mission-critical, or comparable heavy-equipment environments
- Are comfortable owning large, complex structural scopes independently with minimal oversight
- Have designed for significant equipment loading (generators, switchgear, cooling plant, etc.), not just typical commercial live/dead loads
- Communicate technical tradeoffs clearly and pragmatically to non-engineers
- Take pride in technical excellence that keeps projects on schedule and on budget

Benefits

- Competitive salary range and performance bonus program
- 401k fully vested upon enrollment, up to a 4% employer match
- 100% employee premiums paid by employer for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability
- Paid Time Off + Sick time

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
