About this role
Build AI contracting at enterprise scale. Ship it fast.
Ironclad is building AI on one of the most consequential datasets in enterprise software: over 2 billion contracts across thousands of the world's largest organizations. Contracts run every dollar, deal, and business relationship on the planet, and the AI transformation of this space is still largely uncharted. Engineers here are building agentic solutions to problems that haven't been solved yet, in a category that's still being defined. The feedback loop is short, the data is rich, and the people closest to the work are the ones deciding what gets built next. That ability to deliver impact quickly is why the the companies at the forefront of AI choose Ironclad to manage their contracts.
We’re consistently recognized as a leader in the industry: a Leader in the Forrester Wave and Gartner Magic Quadrant for Contract Lifecycle Management, a Fortune Great Place to Work, and one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Workplaces. Ironclad has also been named to Forbes’ AI 50 and Business Insider’s list of Companies to Bet Your Career On. We’re backed by leading investors including Accel, Y Combinator, Sequoia, BOND, and Franklin Templeton. For more information, visit www.ironcladapp.com or follow us on LinkedIn.
Role
Build the tools that help every Ironclad engineer move from an idea to production. Our Developer Productivity team owns local development tooling, build and test systems, release automation, and our Backstage developer portal.
We treat developer tooling as a product, with our fellow engineers as its users. You’ll work directly with them to understand friction, try improvements, and see the impact in their daily work. We value practical engineering judgment: finding small, effective solutions, simplifying systems, and removing unnecessary work. With guidance from Senior and Staff engineers, you’ll own scoped improvements from investigation through rollout.
We’re looking for an engineer with solid coding fundamentals, an interest in infrastructure, and a drive to improve the developer experience. We collaborate closely and share responsibility for supporting the tools we own.
What you’ll do
- Build and maintain tooling for engineers’ local development environments.
- Make builds and tests faster and more reliable, and troubleshoot build and CI failures.
- Improve Kubernetes tooling so product teams can make routine application changes independently.
- Develop catalog entries, templates, and plugins for our Backstage developer portal.
- Support releases through Kargo and improve release automation.
- Join the team’s support rotation: help engineers, document solutions, and turn recurring problems into tooling improvements.
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
Our stack includes TypeScript, React, Node.js, and Docker containers running on Kubernetes in Google Cloud Platform. You don’t need experience with every technology to apply.
What you’ll bring
- 2–4 years of software engineering experience, including internships or significant projects. A formal degree is not required.
- Programming experience in TypeScript or JavaScript, plus Go or Python.
- Comfort with shell scripting and the command line.
- Working knowledge of Git and CI/CD concepts.
- An interest in developer tooling, infrastructure, and helping other engineers work more effectively.
- Clear communication and strong collaboration skills.
- Alignment with Ironclad’s values: drive, intent, integrity, and empathy.
Helpful experience
- Kubernetes, Docker, or SRE practices such as monitoring and incident response.
- webpack, Jest, Vitest, Bazel, or Backstage.
- Cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
