What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an experienced RN who is confident with IV access, enjoys solving challenging vascular-access needs, and thrives in the fast-paced Emergency Department environment. The ideal candidate is highly skilled, dependable, collaborative, and committed to providing excellent patient care while supporting the ED team.
The RN – Emergency Room IV Team provides specialized nursing support within the Emergency Department by assisting with IV access and vascular access needs for patients with routine and challenging IV starts. This role works closely with Emergency Department nurses, physicians, and other clinical team members to ensure patients receive timely, safe, and effective vascular access.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients and determine the most appropriate IV access based on clinical needs.
- Establish peripheral IV access, including difficult and challenging IV starts.
- Assist with vascular access needs throughout the Emergency Department.
- Utilize appropriate equipment and techniques to safely obtain IV access.
- Assess and monitor IV sites for complications, infiltration, phlebitis, or other concerns.
- Maintain knowledge of current IV insertion, infection prevention, and vascular access practices.
- Collaborate with ED nurses and providers to prioritize IV access based on patient acuity.
- Provide support during high-volume periods and assist with timely patient throughput.
- Maintain accurate documentation of IV insertion, assessment, and related nursing care.
- Follow hospital policies, procedures, and standards for patient safety, infection prevention, and medication administration.
- Educate patients regarding IV placement and address questions or concerns with professionalism and compassion.
- Serve as a clinical resource to Emergency Department staff regarding IV access techniques and best practices.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency in required nursing skills.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current BLS certification.
- Emergency Department or acute-care nursing experience preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with peripheral IV insertion and management.
- Strong assessment, communication, critical-thinking, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams.
