Job Description:

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Director, School of Interior Design, Louisiana State University.  The appointment will commence July 1, 2027.  The School seeks a dynamic colleague to contribute to the teaching, research, and service missions of the School, the interdisciplinary setting of the College of Art and Design, and the collaborative opportunities of Louisiana State University.  The Director is the executive officer of the School and is responsible to the President and Chancellor through the Dean of the College of Art and Design and the Academic Affairs Executive Vice President and Provost.  The Director of the School of Interior Design is expected to provide dynamic visionary leadership and exhibit dedication to advancement in all areas of the School in alignment with the mission and goals of the College and University. The Director is responsible for student and faculty involvement in study and research that promote leadership, global engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and culturally competency.

Louisiana provides distinct educational and research opportunities to students and faculty.  At Louisiana State University we are uniquely positioned to address economic development, the coast and environment, culture and the arts, and health and well-being within the Mississippi River Delta and larger global community.  The School of Interior Design is housed within the College of Art and Design along with the School of Architecture, the School of Art, and the Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture. The School awards the Bachelor of Interior Design degree and the Master of Science in Interior Design (MSID), both of which are accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).  The College also has a Doctor of Design Program (DDes) for continued study and research.  The College’s Fabrication Factory is equipped with laser cutters, CNC routers, plasma cutters and 3D printers, which are available for student projects and faculty research.

The Director: provides leadership for the educational programs, budgeting, and focus of the School; assumes responsibility for the management of quality, effectiveness and progress of the School; promotes the public image of the School and University; provides professional leadership and increases Interior Design visibility; encourages good public relations and promotes excellence in teaching and scholarship; encourages and facilitates good teaching research; enforces standards, orients new faculty members, and facilitates faculty growth and development.

The Director will participate on College and School committees as assigned; conduct research and scholarly work; perform service to the University and community. The Director may also teach undergraduate or graduate courses as deemed suitable based on her/his background and the School’s needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Master’s Degree in Interior Design or related field
- Distinguished record in teaching, research, and service sufficient to merit tenure.
- Hold a NCIDQ certificate or equivalent licensure abroad or in related field
- Distinguished record of scholarly, and/or professional practice in Interior Design
- Ability to demonstrate academic administrative experience including development, personnel, student recruitment, and budget management.

Preferred Qualifications:

- A record of successful leadership, collaboration in practice, research, and administrative experience is desired.
