About this role
As Legal Counsel for Equities, you will provide senior legal guidance that shapes how Citi's Equities business manages risk, structures trades, and meets its regulatory obligations across global markets. Sitting within Citi's Legal function, this role partners directly with Equities business leadership to deliver practical, commercially sound legal advice on complex matters. You will combine deep securities and equities market knowledge with sound judgment to help the business move forward confidently while managing legal and reputational risk.
Responsibilities
- Advise Equities business leadership on legal matters affecting strategic initiatives, drawing on subject matter expertise in relevant laws, rules, and industry practices.
- Evaluate business proposals alongside legal peers by weighing institutional risk appetite against industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Coordinate with internal teams, control functions, and external counsel to resolve matters efficiently across regional and global Legal teams.
- Contribute legal and industry expertise to Equities business planning and development initiatives.
- Identify and manage emerging legal, regulatory, and reputational risks by working closely with risk management teams and tracking legal developments.
- Deliver day-to-day legal advisory support as the go-to subject matter expert for the Equities business.
- Oversee complex legal issues and transactions, escalating matters that require senior attention.
- Safeguard Citi, its clients, and its assets by ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and holding others accountable to the same standard.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 6 to 10 years of relevant legal experience, ideally within financial services.
- Background in banking or financial industry law, including banking regulations with a focus on equities and securities markets.
- Working knowledge of international laws and regulations, with the ability to track evolving regulatory and industry trends.
- Track record of structuring legal solutions for complex deals and resolving multifaceted legal issues.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills that build trusted relationships with business stakeholders.
- Well-developed interpersonal, organizational, and relationship management abilities.
- Bar license in good standing to practice law.

$ 140.640,00 - $ 210.960,00
