The Opportunity
Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.
SouthPAN is a Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) comprised of reference stations, telecommunications infrastructure, computing centres, signal generators, and satellites that provide improved positioning and navigation services in Australia, New Zealand, and its maritime region.
As a Cyber Systems Security Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering secure outcomes across complex Defence systems, translating cyber security requirements into practical engineering solutions and providing trusted technical advice to engineering, operational and program stakeholders. Drawing on your strong hands-on technical background, you will assess security risks, review system designs and influence security decisions throughout the system lifecycle.
This role is ideal for someone looking to build on their technical expertise and broaden their impact through technical leadership and advisory responsibilities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, providing mentoring, knowledge transfer and guidance while taking ownership of security outcomes, coordinating activities across stakeholders and helping drive cyber security capability across the program.
This opportunity is based in Mawson Lakes, SA. Applicants from Melbourne, Victoria will be considered.
Key responsibilities
* Translate cyber security requirements into practical engineering solutions across the system lifecycle.
* Review system designs, architecture and technical changes to assess security impacts and ensure compliance.
* Conduct threat modelling, threat hunting and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate cyber risks.
* Support the development of cyber security requirements and the implementation, validation and verification of security controls and risk treatments.
* Provide technical cyber security expertise, troubleshooting support and guidance to engineering, architecture, operations and program stakeholders.
* Apply Defence and Australian Government cyber security frameworks, standards and policies to system architectures and solutions.
* Support security assurance, accreditation and authorisation activities, including risk management and reporting.
* Mentor and support technical teams while promoting cyber security awareness, best practice and continuous improvement.
What you’ll bring
* Significant experience in systems security engineering within Defence or complex ICT environments.
* Strong knowledge of Defence cyber security frameworks, including DCSAAF, ISM, PSPF, DSPF and SPARTA.
* Proven experience in security architecture, security requirements analysis, assurance, accreditation and risk management.
* Expertise in Linux administration, VMware environments, system hardening and platform sustainment.
* Experience with Elastic Security, SIEM technologies, security event monitoring and incident response.
* Strong understanding of network architecture, identity and access management, ASD-approved cryptographic requirements and secure system design.
* Demonstrated capability in vulnerability management, threat analysis and developing effective remediation strategies.
