About this role
Sous Chef | Lillian’s Petite Market & Eatery
Full-Time | Charleston, SC
Five days per week, typically 6:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Good food starts with good ingredients and people who care.
Lillian’s is an independent neighborhood restaurant, café, bar, and market on Congress Street. We’re looking for an experienced Sous Chef who loves cooking, enjoys teaching, and takes pride in leading an organized, thoughtful kitchen.
This full-time position focuses on breakfast and lunch, includes two brunch shifts alongside Executive Chef Todd Garrigan, and supports our strong catering program. Your schedule will average five days per week, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some adjustments for catering needs.
Who We Are
We’re a neighborhood gathering place where someone might start their morning with coffee, return for lunch, and celebrate a special occasion over dinner. We care about the everyday meals as much as the special ones.
Our relationships with local farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and small suppliers shape what we cook. We want our team to know where ingredients come from, use them thoughtfully, and feel proud of what leaves the kitchen.
We’re hands-on owners and a collaborative team. You’ll work directly with Chef Garrigan, have a voice in the food we serve, and help build a kitchen where clear communication, respect, and care guide the work.
What You’ll Do
· Lead breakfast and lunch preparation and service, maintaining quality and consistency.
· Work alongside Chef Garrigan during two brunch shifts.
· Help plan, prepare, and execute catering orders while keeping daily restaurant service running smoothly.
· Contribute ideas for dishes, specials, and catering menus.
· Train and support cooks with clear direction and practical teaching.
· Manage prep lists, ordering, inventory, ingredient rotation, and waste.
· Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety.
· Communicate with the service team about daily changes, dietary needs, and guest requests.
What You Bring
· At least two years of experience as a Sous Chef or in a comparable kitchen leadership role.
· Strong cooking fundamentals and sound judgment during busy service.
· Excellent organization, attention to detail, and reliable follow-through.
· A respectful leadership style and a willingness to teach and learn.
· An interest in local ingredients and the people who produce them.
· Availability for early mornings, weekends, and catering needs.
Why Join Lillian’s?
This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of daytime service while working closely with an experienced executive chef. Breakfast, lunch, brunch, and catering offer variety, creative opportunities, and room to develop your leadership skills.
Your work will have a direct impact on our team, our guests, and the local producers we support. You’ll have access to our chef and ownership, and your ideas and contributions will matter.
We offer:
· Competitive pay based on experience.
· A primarily daytime schedule.
· Opportunities to contribute to menu development and grow professionally.
· Employee discounts on market and menu items.
· Online healthcare services available to all employees at no cost.
